I remember reading a book about a parasitic alien that starts taking over a human colony. It was a mildly obscure book, but I'd appreciate it if anyone here could help me find it.
I remember some characters being on a specific life-extending medicine and that there were bits from the alien POV. It was basically an invasion from a single form to a full scale planet-rape.
Does anyone know any similar books? I have only vague memories since I read it in my teens.

It has nothing to do with being new.(which I am) And everything to do with hating that line of reasoning people use. My friend irl does it all the time. I'll bring up something that I find odd or noteworthy, and he'll dismiss it with "well it's [noun]". As if it washes everything I've said away. Like
>Me: This pizza isn't very good
>Him: Well it's pizza hut
>Me: This game is so grindy
>Him: Well it's an RPG
>Me: This character is so frustrating
>Him: Well she's a tsun-tsun.
It's like, ok, you categorized it for me, thanks. Now how does that change what I said? Is this supposed to be a counter argument? Or are you just blowing hot air? Like what is the contribution here?

>>14486174
>Xianxia is just about wish fulfillment. Treating it that seriously is almost funny.
Like in all things there is a good way to go about it, and a bad way to go about it. You can tell a story about broken power levels that doesn't rely on cheap tricks and tropes. Which is what I'm hoping the book manages to do going forward. Again, I'm keeping an open mind.

>if you think that a book without any torture, rape or even senseless murder is edgy
But it does have senseless murder. Are you reading the same book? And besides, I have read books with "worse" content. Yet, if they handle the subject matter well, then I wouldn't call it edgy. The edginess comes from how cheaply such subjects are portrayed.

How much did it cost? I hope it wasnt too much. Looks like a middle school art student drew it for his deviant art account in 2006. How long did it take you to write the book?

Being an ass aside, I legit want to know how how much it costs to put your book on amazon, how much you get paid for kindle unlimited. How do you make money and how much do you make if I can read it for free with a ton of other books for $10 a month? If I read 10 books, each book gets a dollar, but amazon has a cut I am sure, so you get what, 50 cents per reader? How much has this book made you so far?

I'm just gonna have to disagree about the art, I think he did a great job. It took me a couple months to write the book, but the better part of a year to edit it (I took a lot of breaks and I hate editing).

It's free to put your book on Amazon. I think I get paid per page read for Kindle Unlimited - due to the length of my novel I think this is less than if someone just bought my book (and MUCH less if they bought a hardcopy).

I've only sold like four copies in the few days since this was published, so I've made ten bucks. This is my first book and I suck at marketing so I'm not expecting a gigantic deluge of sales off of it, but a man can hope.

The goal here is to generate more feedback so real buyers will be enticed. Most people just glance at the rating and move on if its not a lot or high feedback. Thats when you get your money back and more. the 400 is just an investment.

> is his criticism valid? How much do you agree with it?
Regarding the 3 star review: I think people are entitled to their opinions and I'm not really going to be the guy who shows up and replies to every negative criticism, nor would I really want to say that what they're saying is totally invalid. I want to respect my readers' opinions, even if I disagree with them.

With that said, I don't really agree with much of it. A lot of it seems to be centered around frustration that plot points aren't all tied up, but this is meant to be the first entry in a series. There are supposed to be loose ends, questions left unanswered, things to keep you interested in finding out what happens in the next book. If everything was tied up in a neat little bow, what's the point of writing a sequel?

I can't really address some of the other criticisms without spoiling the book, but I think - again - a lot of it is really related to not knowing what happens in the sequel. For example: "Another seems to start an unrelated storyline" for instance - sure, it may seem unrelated for now, but it won't later.

I do see where he's coming from on some of it, though. The "switching points of view" thing - not everyone is going to like that, sure. With regards to the "ending seeming unfocused" and the character having an identity crisis that the reader found unrealistic - I get where this reader is coming from. It could seem a little sudden, I'm sure, and there is a big cliffhanger at the end of this novel. I can see how this could be frustrating for some readers, and how it might feel unrealistic; with that said, the main character has some extremely heavy unexpected shit laid on him and he's already just been through an extremely harrowing adventure where his worldview was slowly chipped at the whole time. It's enough to make anyone have doubts and questions, imo.

Yeah I get that some readers might be bothered by this. Personally, I like the way Brandon Sanderson handles it in Mistborn. Each book has its own conflict and antagonist and he resolves it within the book. He doesn't end with cliffhangers, but there are a few minor loose ends which eventually become important. You might want to check it out if you haven't already. I know Sanderson is hated here but he's not nearly as bad as /sffg/ says.

The spoiler in my post last thread. Not only have you not read the book, you can't even read a few posts back. YEESH. Look... Killing Lindon's mom made no difference. It was only used as a device to make the evil man appear even more evil by killing a character the protagonist cares about. I rolled my eyes when his mom's head rolled out of the sack. But then when Lindon had a choice to keep his memories after death, I perked up again. Because it sounded like he would have to choose between rewinding to before the time his mom was killed without memories, or rewinding only before the bad guy arrived with memories. The latter option being unable to revive his mom. Effectively forcing him to weigh his mom's life against the teeny tiny potential he has to save his clan. Which of course would be a GIANT motivator for him. Knowing that if he fails, then not only did he fail his clan, but he allowed his mother to die for nothing. But nope, we don't need to worry about that. Time reversal! Lindon gets everything he wanted for nothing. Mom died for no reason LOL.

This is so wrong. He explicitly stated that he was going to rule over everyone in the sacred valley, combining all clans under his rule.

>but I have to ask if the book has preachy morals;
I would say no. I really tried to avoid this. I wrote the narrator to be purposefully somewhat biased towards a couple of the factions, but you also get to hear about all of the flaws of those factions. Regarding morality and "the right way to live," the book mostly asks questions rather than forcing answers down your throat. You decide.

>Also, if I might ask, did you have everything planned out before writing or was it mostly "on the go"?

I had a conception of the overall story, but large parts of this were still done in a "discovery writing" kind of way. Imagine a sprawling storyboard made beforehand but bits and pieces of connective tissue had to be dreamed up while I was writing. I think it all came together nicely after several rounds of editing.

>Again, congrats and I hope you get some success off the book
Thank you very much! I really appreciate it.

You know the deathgame novels where they eventually spill out into proletarian revolution that were huge in YA last decade?
It's that but set in a larger mythology inspired science fantasy universe and for the most part written to a higher quality.

It's a really fun first read, the stuff that I don't like isn't that apparent until a reread and even if you don't like the sequels which lose the deathgame aspect it stands alone pretty well.

There is no rape. There will at least be some allusions to rape in book two. In this book I suppose there is some talk of what happens to people in the Imperium when they commit rape.

No one is obviously gay and there are no gay scenes in the book. Actually, I guess there is one rather outlandish character that says some fairly gay shit. He appears for one, maybe two paragraphs. I don't want to spoil too much but this is definitely not your usual "here's my token gay character" thing that so much media does these days. I don't like this kind of thing, I think it's boring, preachy, and tiresome. I guess one of my readers thought that one of the main characters was gay, but there's no real evidence given for this as far as I can tell.

There is no incest. I may or may not have some big plans on this front in book 2, but I am going to have to verify that Amazon won't fuck me over for putting that kind of content in a book.

Because this first book is - to some degree - a coming of age tale for the main character, sexuality isn't a huge component of the book. He's an awkward, idealistic kid. He gets boners, he lusts after girls, but he's goodhearted and naive. He's not a "nice guy" or anything but he's stereotypically unsure of himself around girls, doesn't really know what he's supposed to say, and is basically too busy to be fucking around with chicks anyway. That, and if I show sex scenes in my books I'm sort of afraid Amazon will mark my stuff as 18+ and nuke my sales. I may get more brave in book 2. I would like to, anyway.

I appreciate the questions and interest, btw. Thank you.
