I am so insanely tired of being an atheist. Of living in an atheist world.

I need to find God, /lit/. Show me the path...

>Followers of the Zen way, if you want to get the kind of understanding that accords with the Dharma, never be misled by others. Whether you're facing inward or facing outward, whatever you meet up with, just kill it! If you meet a buddha, kill the buddha. If you meet a patriarch, kill the patriarch. If you meet an arhat, kill the arhat. If you meet your parents, kill your parents. If you meet your kinfolk, kill your kinfolk. Then for the first time you will gain emancipation, will not be entangled with things, will pass freely anywhere you wish to go.

I'm gonna recommend Theism. Try believing their is a creator (possible) and try viewing things in more then one way to see (possibly) the subtle messages he sends you about life.

Please, don't fall for sets of rules of the major religions. Though indeed read the texts, like The Bible. It's my beleif that those texts are just peoples own attempts to see the subtle messages, and oh how often the point is misunderstood by mortal minds.

Recommended reading list:
Upanishads by Krishnu
Bhagavad Gita by Krishnu
Yoga Sutras by Patanjali
Hermetica by Hermes

Don't listen to him, OP. Those who know God face to face become imortal. Seek Him with honesty and you shall find Him. Study Guenon and the sacred scriptures and choose a tradition to follow. Faithfully commit yourself to it and to its cosmovision.

Also, poetry is just a step, that can be used for purification, but The Perfect Man- that is, the Saint- is the greatest piece of art. He's the replica of the whole cosmos.

100:6.3.The marks of human response to the religious impulse embrace the qualities of nobility and grandeur. The sincere religionist is conscious of universe citizenship and is aware of making contact with sources of superhuman power. He is thrilled and energized with the assurance of belonging to a superior and ennobled fellowship of the sons of God. The consciousness of self-worth has become augmented by the stimulus of the quest for the highest universe objectives—supreme goals.

100:6.4.The self has surrendered to the intriguing drive of an all-encompassing motivation which imposes heightened self-discipline, lessens emotional conflict, and makes mortal life truly worth living. The morbid recognition of human limitations is changed to the natural consciousness of mortal shortcomings, associated with moral determination and spiritual aspiration to attain the highest universe and superuniverse goals. And this intense striving for the attainment of supermortal ideals is always characterized by increasing patience, forbearance, fortitude, and tolerance.

If you’re tired of being an atheist and need to find God, then just find Him. That’s it. You did it. You want Him, so believe in Him. There’s no use reading millions of books as if that’ll bring you some understanding you don’t have. You can read to develop on the understanding, intuition, and faith you have within you. But if just reading tons of religious books made you a saint or sage, everyone with a degree in religious studies would be the Buddha. There are good recommendations in this thread, of course, but they miss the point by suggesting God is to be found in a book.

You think you are missing religion, but what you are actually missing is community/culture. Congratulations! In exchange for being born in a time post vaccination and the internet you also live in the decline of culture.

This simulation is past its expiration date. I theorize that every simulation is made to birth a few cultures of interest (or at least a chance at producing one) whether guided or by natural selection. These are ancient creations of a less technologically advanced time now passed.

Technology is such an accelerating force for information sharing and knowledge generation that the end point of a simulation converges to a singular point. As time marches on, meaningful differences between all simulations in the multiverse at this stage of technology decrease. We have entered an age of great simplification by means of technological usurpation. All the petty pursuits of man and his vainglorious efforts will be made irrelevant by technology.

Culture used to be the force that edited the genome, but technology will crack that baby wide open. Why bother with hundreds of thousands of generations of cumulative experience and a conscious effort to corral behavior to produce a better innate template for offspring when gene editing will be perfected in less than a hundred generations and any and all templates will be accessible?

We live in a time of the most pointless war between a richly meaningful, diverse, and flawed past and an inescapable singular future truth. The conflict itself is entirely uninteresting as the sides are mismatched beyond our ability to even comprehend. The only victory left for the dying cultures of the past is voluntary and radically terroristic annihilation of the preset. Either way, they will be annihilated at an alarming speed.

The biggest problem of our age is how do we construct communities that can survive the extinction of cultures? The answer is communities constructed out of pure behavior rather than belief. Obviously, these exist, but we also need to construct means of guiding young people to participate and find the community acceptance they need in these groups.

The church is not the answer. Everywhere it is dying and people are hurting because they miss and need some of what the church offers. But they cannot reconcile with the church's beliefs. We have to solve this community building problem in tandem with our churches dying or the rate of self destruction will only increase.
