Is it possible to get into philosophy as a hobby or from pleasure reading? I was a STEMfag so I never got the chance to study it in depth at school. I want to understand Nick Land’s writing but I have no idea about his influences.

Don't read Nick Land and don't engage in continental philosophy.
Read the Bible instead.

Of course it is, just start with some shit that sounds good and see how your interpretation of a text differs from your peers

It's the only way to start. Just dive right into that bitch. Pick a philosopher, read a couple writings, move to someone relevant but with diffent viewpoints, repeat. People treat philosophy like some unattainable greatness and they're idiots for it. Just start somewhere, anywhere and the knowledge will come later. I started with Nietche, who took me to Sartre who took me to Camus. It doesn't matter where you start, it matters that you do, and asap

I started with Descartes Discourse on Method. If you really want an overview just pick up a philosophy 101 book and then pick somebody you like from that. Philosophy is mostly bullshit to be honest. Discourse on Method is 60% Descartes telling you he's reasonable in a circle. Beyond Good and Evil is 75% Nietche talking shit about other philosophers without actually saying anything.

I was a stemfag and took philosophy courses. One day you'll finish school and realize you have tons of free time.

Why not? You wont be an authority on it obviously but youll be better off, maybe some phil majors will scoff at the idea of autodidactism but theyre just coping from getting a useless major

Just not worth the risk when you need a 3.9+ to get into med school in Canada. Class averages are usually pretty low for philosophy courses at my school. I’m pretty intelligent though and I think I could grasp things on my own, but I wonder if you can truly learn philosophy outside of an academic setting.

Any books about cute Jewesses? Besides Anne Franks's diary, of course.
