It would be an interesting commentary, shame it was just a short lived /lit/ meme. I saw a commercial for VR headsets when I realized the unhappiness modernity is causing. Obviously not all of it is bad, medical advances is one of many positives. But the degradation of communities, the anomie caused by big businesses and consumerism became glaringly obvious after I witnessed the advent of VR and it's growing popularity: people are resorting to escapism and antidepressants to make up for the lack of social bonds and belonging. It is in my opinion that corporate takeovers across the nation of what used to be taken of by small communities is in part the cause of this and many other degeneracy such as "capeshit," widespread tattoos, so called thottery, social media narcissism, what many call basedboys, and pointless consumerism. People here argue it's lack of religion, whatever it may be, that's the cause. But what they are not looking at is what's causing the decrease in religiosity. It becomes pointless when your life is just living in a cubicle jail cell then come back to work driving down roads of Walmart's, Burgerking's, McDonald's, and Exon Mobil's to your house in the middle of cookie cutter suburbia. It makes for interesting literature.
