“Amazing… how?” I asked, trying to ignore the image of this girl peeing her pants.

Very debatable.
Modern Isekai is often written as nothing more than a script for an eventual anime adaption. The writing sometimes suffers further from sloppy fan translations, but quite frankly there isn't much to work with for the translators.
Good Isekai would be 12 Kingdoms.
Its a long running novel that started before the writing standards for isekai in general tanked.
Its not really a completely finished saga though (it has a good anime too if you want to go that route)

There is Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto which has two novellas in one book. You can read anything by Natsuo Kirino who writes about Japanese women, some books of hers are Out, Grotesque and Real World. Joy Kogawa wrote Obasan which is about Japanese-Canadians and their treatment during World War 2, I think they were also forced from their homes and had to go to internment camps. There is also Memoirs of a Geisha, but I don't know who wrote the novel, I just know that Hollywood made a movie from the book.

These are my favorites. I rated them top to bottom, left to right. Not all of them are good, but I think most of them are worth a mention.

Noteworthy aspects:
My absolute favorite is Heartgem homestead, I just love it.
Mask of the template is very solid and well written.
Herald of Shalia is average, but the author is so masterful when doing dialogue I just had to give it some extra points. It's worth reading for the dialogue alone.
Ex-superheroes is the only superhero novel I've read worth anything.
Master of blood and shadow is really unknown, but it's a very good take on a darker harem setting.
Star druid's author has also written another good series, and his books are generally good.
The cleansing flame is by the same author as The Crimson Queen, an indie book that gained a lot of recognition. He decided to experiment on this one and wrote it in first person present tense.
The daily struggles of an immortal is just a past-time slice of life.
John Blake can be found for free on lit-erotica and it's the most porn of them all. Read it if you like inflation.
Fimbulwinter is average, but it's fun.
Same for Tamer, but you'll have to trudge through the first book, which is atrocious. The next books are much better.

A few things. Make sure your main character is not a doormat or a complete pussy. He doesn't have to be a chad, but if he starts out as weak, make sure he gets a proper character arc. Read Harmon Cooper and The Five Trials for example of what not to do.

Make sure you don't introduce more girls than you can develop. Two gets you into the genre, more than 4 gets a little crowded. Bad examples: Darren's wild wastes.

And the stuff that goes for normal books as well: make sure you have a story. I often see books with a good premise but no story. Either the author decided to ignore the premise, or he just spends his whole book write about inconsequential stuff only to have the book finish with no resolution. Introduction->Conflict->Resolution.

Also, make sure that if you write sex scenes, they don't come at inopportune times. You gotta build up that shit, or it's just wasted. It's better a fade to black than bad sex scenes. Bad example: this one book just came out called "The Cost of Being special", there is this one scene where one of the MCs friends gets her family killed and they go to their friends place to spend the night. The girl just lost all her family, but the MC is there in the other room having an orgy. There are many books that aren't so blatant but suffer from the same stuff. Don't interrupt an important flow of your story to write sex.

>> No.14395883

I predict it will go for 25-30 books at 170-175 A4 pages each. will that give me enough time to develop the characters? also, there will be no sex scenes. But i do plan on doing spin-offs on the descendents of the main character in the future.

These are all good writing advices for this time of story.

It's important to have a Main Character who's at least somewhat grounded, but special and likable enough that you can believe that girls would like him. Note that just "Being Powerful, Handsome and Good in Bed" isn't an acceptable solution to this. He has to have character and charisma, and if he's already pornomancing bitches by the beginning nobody will like.

And speaking of them, the girls have to be unique and distinct from each other, but also written in a way that their relationships can be believable. Catfights can be fun but they get old fast, but on the contrary if all of them are completely and utterly willing to share the MC Cock, it will be equally as annoying. A good balance must be struck.

For the number of girls, I'd say that 3 to 5 is a good number. 7 or so as an absolute limit. More than that is practically impossible to develop. And definitely don't be afraid to spend time developing the relationships. The girls shouldn't be hopping on cock all on Book One.

World building. Oftentimes readers of these stories are looking for a way to insert themselves into the world; your world building should reflect that desire. In an obscure series of novels known as Harry Potter, the writer (a genius) decided to create three more or less antagonistic factions of students for readers to insert themselves into. We are still dealing with the fallout of that decision today. In reality a school would not want to foster such factionalism, as it would be equivalent to creating official gangs and lead to any number of problems! And in fact, in that series, it was a source of problems. Strange. But never the less, consider giving your reader the option to contemplate: if I were in this world, who would I be? Color coded gangs ("houses"), various sexy races, class-based magic, innate special abilities. All ripe for self-insert potential. Basically, build your world around self-insert potential. Give factions different characters, different reasons for being cool, different reasons for someone wanting to identify with them.

You forgot to mention appealing to the lowest possible sorts and writing at a grade school level. The most popular things are those that are at least mediocre for everyone and great for a lot.

As opposed many niche people where a dedicated following think it's the best ever and most think it's just bad.

I originally had a bit about writing, but it didn't sit right with me.

Writing in these series should be clear and direct. The target is mediocrity and nothing more or less. You are writing to entertain. No ten dollar words for the sake of showing off your extended vocabulary. No page-length digressions on subjects of no apparent relevance. No cut-rate philosophical monographs. No internal extended monologues from the MC where he methodically reasons out the logic of everything that is happening from his perspective. Good writers can do these things well.

That's not you. On the off chance it is you, you're not writing that novel anyway. The key to writing a entertaining novel is to stay in the moment. Don't go to the trouble of imagining a whole world and then have it play out inside your MCs head just because you have the first person perspective.

The reason I didn't include this 'advice' is because it's bad advice. Writers of trash novels have violated all of these rules and made bank. Nobody cares, it's just something I want. Civilizing trash novels seems like an easier play than convincing scifi novelists to write something entertaining intentionally.
