What are some books about the Hindu Yuga cycle?

Do they actually believe that we've been going through a cycle for 400 000+ years? Is there some kind of history of these time periods or is it a metaphor or what is going on here

I can't believe how hard it is to find information about this, all my searches just turn up stuff talking about the Kali Yuga and not the first 3 yugas

The Ramayana is set in Sat-Yuga. Look into that; it might leaf to some insight. The Mahabharata is set in Dwapara-Yuga, and is, it can be argued, the story of the transition from Dwapara to Kali-Yuga, the transition happening at the precise moment the hunter mistakes Krishna's foot for a deer, thereby shooting and slaying him.
