Great books to read with a girl at the same time?

Me and a friend are trying to decide on a book to read together. We've seen each other a few times and she's interested in this idea of maintaining a connection while not being in the same place. What books would be good?

She recommended the martian because of its day-by-day ness, I was hoping to find something more literary that will help foster a genuine connection through bonding over the morals in the literature. But I also want something addicting, to be sure that we both want to read it.

What do you guys think?

Just read the Martian this time to make her happy then suggest one of your nerd books next time like you’re taking turns. Don’t over complicate it dude.

So you're trying to find a book that two people would both enjoy by asking a group of people who never met either person?

Read fucking Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, even though it's completely unrelated to your query

Shut up you fucking pussy. Stop propitiating women and treat them like equals. They won't appreciate or understand it for a century, maybe two centuries, but eventually they will become real humans if you keep doing it.

If you're a woman, hang yourself for wanting to be patronized.

I am pretty sure he is critiquing women as a whole. He just said women are not human.

Don't patronize women unless you want to live for another thousand years with them being little better than children.

I got a gf because she started reading One Hundred Years of Solitude over my shoulder,so maybe try that. At the time it was pretty complicated lit for both of us so we helped each other piece together and make sense of the book as we went.

Getting real tired of "rec me sum books /lit/" with no context of what kind of lit you like, what she likes, how much you've already read/how literary you both are.

I'd choose something 150-250 pages long from the 20th century that's relatively easy to get into for most folks. So I refer you to the AP literature list for public schools. A lot of the stuff on there is very approachable because it's for high school students who haven't read much (generally speaking, hurr durr Ulysses is on there).

I know. I know. I still hate that this board always has an influx of the same 3-5 posts that usually don't have enough info for Anons to rec well, etc.
