Why isn't philosophy considered fiction?

>> No.14368392

Women only read fiction
Women can't read philosophy
Therefore, philosophy is not fiction

It is, do you mean philosophical essays? Then that's obvious. The better question is why are memoirs considered non-fiction when, even if true, it's just a retelling of events in story-form.

Whoa... Then, like, why isn't history considered fiction? Broooooo

>why isn't history considered fiction?
Because it's written in essay format, if a memoir is the same then it's fiction.

What kind of philosophy are we talking about? Metaphysics? Epistemology? Aesthetics? Science? Because limiting discussion to only what can currently be verified means limiting discussion to only what can be currently verified, which I'm sure you can agree is quite limiting. Assuming you are speaking of metaphysics, if we accept that assumption then when we speculate, informed by science as we do in almost all ontological branches, we present our axioms quite openly. Is speculation fiction?

If you consider it fiction, then your goal has already been achieved.

Don't worry about what other people consider it. You are welcome for receiving my great wisdom.

This is a perfect example of beginning with an incorrect axiom; garbage in, garbage out as programmers would say. It's clear the author does not know what the field of philosophy actually is, but has an impression or perspective or the term 'philsophy', informed not by education or academia, but by popular culture. It's likely that the author doesn't know what the other fields are either come to think of it.

Analytic already sold itself off to the sciences. It did this by treading too far into the domain of science and creating its own obscurity by using esoteric language — no one but a handful and autists and philosophy professors care about analytic philosophy, or modern philosophy in general.

Philosophical speculation is a particular kind of speculation about the future. All philosophy is about the future of philosophy.
