I go on dates with my girlfriend. Usually to the art museum, or simply a nice dinner. We also go on many walks, or go to mass, or go to adoration. Sometimes we just sit in her apartment and talk about books, God, and life. Every once in a while we will watch a movie. She is close to her family, so we often spend a lot of time with her siblings, and her parents, and her nieces and nephews. Recently, we drove for thanksgiving to see my grandparents. Soon, we will drive for Christmas to see her grandparents. For us, the purpose has always been to try and know each other--to learn both the deep and important beliefs, but also the small, mundane, and domestic. It is the building of emotional intimacy by slow, steady, and prudent revelation of self. The hope is of course to find someone with whom we are comfortable raising a family and to whom we can commit our lives. I suggest, the more traditionally you view the purpose of a relationship, the easier time you will have with it. Because there is a clear direction it ought to take, you will be better able to tell how to go that direction, or else decide that you would not like to continue down that path. If you leave the purpose of the relationship undefined, then how can either person be satisfied? How can either be confident in it? How will either now what to do next?

I forgot to mention, we have also played volleyball with a group of friends, and seen orchestra concerts. A mix of solitary and group activities in both casual and formal environments is a good way to get a sense of somebody.
