On the topic of Catholicism, can anyone rec books that explain why a deist should become Christian?

Only in truth does charity shine forth, only in truth can charity be authentically lived. Truth is the light that gives meaning and value to charity. That light is both the light of reason and the light of faith, through which the intellect attains to the natural and supernatural truth of charity: it grasps its meaning as gift, acceptance, and communion. Without truth, charity degenerates into sentimentality. Love becomes an empty shell, to be filled in an arbitrary way. In a culture without truth, this is the fatal risk facing love. It falls prey to contingent subjective emotions and opinions, the word “love” is abused and distorted, to the point where it comes to mean the opposite. Truth frees charity from the constraints of an emotionalism that deprives it of relational and social content, and of a fideism that deprives it of human and universal breathing-space. In the truth, charity reflects the personal yet public dimension of faith in the God of the Bible, who is both Agápe and Lógos: Charity and Truth, Love and Word. I'm new to Christianity and all, but why does this make so much damn sense to me?

Paulist press put out a better recent translation, and accompanying book. both are cheap on amazon

That... really is a beautiful passage. Its so well written, it reminds me of Stalin's prose. Making me doubt my disdain for Christianity. Got anything else? It makes sense, imo, because its true, and even more so, because its a really vital insight for out time.

I dont want to kill a thread to ask this but is there a decent physical set of the complete works of Augustine? Just read city of God and the confessions and it changed my life, thanks and God bless

most people against conservative sexual ethics, it's not a strictly christian thing, it's just human-traditionalist in general.

Today Christians are neutered dogs, who shelter themselves from anything and anyone that even remotely challenges them, their world views or their coziness. They live sheltered lives in houses that don't allow swearing, while ancient christians watched people be executed. It turned them into children and their art suffered. No christian artist pushes for something. They've all learned to play it "safe" to keep in their petting zoo pen. Everything they do has not only to be good and positive, it also has to show their religion and their god as wholly good and positive. That's why christian rock is such a wishy washy edgeless nonsense.
Because back then religious people weren't afraid of life. They took risks, they fucked, they killed, they arted hard. They expressed themselves and as long as it wasn't anti-church they were allowed to do this. Michelangelo watched and performed autopsies for better understanding of his art. They dealt with a lot of shit and their life and knowledge reflects in their art.
