not that surprising that general intelligence has dropped, along with probably a dozen other comorbid factors we can't even identify. maybe something like "generally giving a shit" is a trait that could be measured almost as well as analytic ability or spatial reasoning. maybe humans revert to merely social, pre-civilized behaviors when under population stress, so that almost all "normal" people are currently locked into a what is effectively a mental age of 15, with the human social equivalent of a perpetual fear grimace on their face to prevent from being overwhelmed by a huge and confusing world. maybe we're reverting to walter ong's orality, or something like it, from a state of (elite) literacy.

maybe all of these processes have been going on for a century and would be obvious to anyone who actually had a frame of reference from which to make a comparison. maybe what you dimly see in rare moments as "why is everything so shit??? is this just me noticing this????" would appear to an edwardian in horrifying relief, so that a modern upper middle class "educated" american would appear to the edwardian as the worst borderline retarded inner city black or white trash meth addict appears to the upper middle class american, but because this frame of reference necessarily no longer exists, we just assume reflexively that people have been pretty much the same across all eras

the real question is cui bono? how is this taking place so thoroughly and systemically, so effectively, with so few hiccups in its progression? in whose interest is it that humanity becomes generally retarded, become more libidinal and instinctive in its behaviours just as machines are being touted as potentially equivalent to human "intelligence" (that is, what passes for it these days)? what is the end goal?
