>Is /r/books really that pleb and braindead?

The top threads are usually:

>I'm bored with [classic work of literature]! Should I skip? (nearly all the replies say yes)
>Am I to old to read YA? (nearly all replies say no)
>I used to love reading as a kid but know my attention span is gone!
>I just read [high-school tier lit] for the first time and it was amazing!
>I just read a whole novel for the first time in 20 years and it was amazing!

>"Reading George Orwells 1984 for the first time." Don't know why I've avoided this book for so long. Really enjoying it. It's a lot more easier to read than Brave New World. The book is frightening because it's so close to reality. History is slowly being changed or erased entirely and the higher ups are purposely dumbing down society in order to keep them in line. The idea of newspeak is a clever idea. However, today its played out differently but with the same result. Not being able to have a voice and being told that there is only one 'truth' makes you narrowed minded and easy prey to brainwashing. Something that has been happening on campuses for years now. I'm so glad I finally started to get into this amazing book. I love dystopian novels. What do you guys think of it?

>Hello looking for book recomendations! I LOVE Terry Goodkinds sword of truth novels. And also The RuneLords series by Dave Wulverton. I am currently reading dracula, the original one, and afterwards will read star wars aftermath trilogy! So any high fantasy-ish setting with an original twist is good for me! Anything that uses psychology or philosophy that makes you question life is what I'm hoping to get. If it is fantasy even better. Longer books the better. Thank you!
