I think the introduction the the Second Edition of the Norton Anthology of Literary Theory and Criticism offered an interesting summary. I can't confirm that because I don't have my copy nearby. Anyway, when people discuss theory, they're typically referring to a broad collection of disparate theoretical approaches to viewing, reading, seeing, understanding, etc. Writers with common positions and commitments can be grouped into schools or movements (I've named a few), but the term and its usage are fraught and potentially unhelpful.

That said, I can't speak to any raiding by communists. Marxists certainly are included in theory anthologies, but I only see Marx in the infographic. I think it would be a mistake to conflate theory with Marxism or leftist critique. The genus is far greater.

He supported the arming of the working class through gun ownership to prevent tyrannical governments from subjugating them, and he was a Nationalist in that he supported the sovereignty of the working class as the governors of their own nation.

"Left wing" ideologies are those where the government owns the means of production through means of a dictatorship (stalinism/maoism) etc. which exist in countries like China, North korea, America etc.
Although sometimes the dictatorship is hidden underneath a fake democracy (as is the case in North Korea and America). Either way, propaganda is required to keep both left wing countries in check.
