If I can only afford one piece of secondary literature on Hegel should I get Zizek, Malabou, or Brandom? Other suggestions also welcome but I have already read Kojeve...

>Zizek
No. Zizek is a brilliant philosopher influenced by Hegel, but not a Hegel scholar.
> Malabou, or Brandom
IDK, but consider Pippin

Hegel is really over rated. He is not deep, he is just vague. Zizie just layers that with his own bullcrap.

To be clear, the books I am choosing between are:
>less than nothing
>the future of hegel
>a spirit of trust

What's good by Pippin? What is his approach? Also what is the meaning of your picture?

OP here. I have already read PoS. I liked it a lot. I also find some value in the Lacan which I have meandered through. To each their own.

What do you want to get out of Hegel? Or which works of Hegel's do you want to understand?

Get the Houlgate or Lauer introductions to the Phenomenology before any of those three if you're not already very well versed.

Hegel's Idealism: The Satisfactions of Self-Consciousness. He's much more of a historian of philosophy than philosopher interpreting another philosopher like Kojeve.

I don't wish to understand Hegel exactly per se. I wanna know what the broader academic reception to his work. Creatively fruitful or cutting-edge stuff. Kojeve was really cool after reading PoS for example. I've read PoS, PoR, and Lectures on History and Religion.

Thanks! Hegel on Self-Consciousness looks interesting as well. I do like Hegel as a stand-alone but I am also kinda trying to do a piecemeal continental supplementation of my analytic undergrad courses in an attempt to understand continental thought of which my Hegelian struggles are a part. Fortunately, (unfortunately?) everything is so intellectually incestuous.
