I have been considering converting to Islam desu, it seems like the most logical religion to follow. I know a lot of Sufis who live happy lives free from coveting their material possessions.

ok listen up, here's the secret scoop.. the incredibly broad and vague descriptor "sufi" applies to uncountable numbers of movements spanning every continent on earth and well over a thousand years. not only are they typically heterodox, at many times and in many places being a sufi at all, just being a sufi to b egin with, was already considered heterodox and had to be carried out in secret and far from official channels. even if islamic schools of jurisprudence had internally consistent definitions of sufism, which they don't, there are so many schools and subschools of islamic jurisprudence spread all over the world that these definitions would still differ anyway.

so sufism is not "basically the same everywhere."
