Marx wasn't just anti-capitalist. He thought that collapse of capitalism and socialism and communism following it is a historical determination. This is why leninism was unorthodox. Russia wasn't a capitalist society and Lenin and other marxist knew it and discussed it, because you can't just jump from feudalism to socialism. Also: you can not like him, but he's like Kant or Hegel, you don't really understand anything written after him if you haven't read him.

>The bourgeoisie has disclosed how it came to pass that the brutal display of vigour in the Middle Ages, which reactionaries so much admire, found its fitting complement in the most slothful indolence. It has been the first to show what man’s activity can bring about. It has accomplished wonders far surpassing Egyptian pyramids, Roman aqueducts, and Gothic cathedrals; it has conducted expeditions that put in the shade all former Exoduses of nations and crusades.
[...]
>The bourgeoisie, during its rule of scarce one hundred years, has created more massive and more colossal productive forces than have all preceding generations together. Subjection of Nature’s forces to man, machinery, application of chemistry to industry and agriculture, steam-navigation, railways, electric telegraphs, clearing of whole continents for cultivation, canalisation of rivers, whole populations conjured out of the ground – what earlier century had even a presentiment that such productive forces slumbered in the lap of social labour?

No we aren't. Western quality of life peaked a few decades ago. We are wealthier than ever*, but not happier than ever. This is only the best time in history if you factor in the reduced suffering of the third world and the massive development of China.
Of course, it's not impossible to import many of the features of the recent past to the present in order to improve our lot in life - but it's important not to be over-cheery about the present because then we won't see the need to do so. Our happiness largely regresses to the mean with time. The smartphone makes us no more happy than the television did because within a few years of having invented it, it's become a new standard and we're completely used to it. The result is that we feel as though we're suffering if it's taken away from us, but we no longer appreciate the novelty of the thing itself. With moderate changes in the distribution of wealth (those easily achievable within capitalism) you could make the case that we're wealthy enough to be happy as it is and our current aim should be to reduce working hours and generally try to make life less stressful rather than pushing for ever greater pointless convenience at the expense of more difficult working conditions. I'm not saying that's my case - you could also combine improved working conditions with an attempt to increase our wealth even further, and let the natural economic consequence of that improve the lot of the poor, but either way a lot of the keys to doing so lie in the recent past.

*in some material terms anyway - nicer TVs, safer cars, etc. in monetary terms there's a good case for wage stagnation in many countries+middle class wealth remaining largely static or locked up in overpriced houses.

Everyone is nihilistically drowning in depression and anxiety. What the fuck are you talking about? The world is a tragedy. Everyone is sad. Everyone feels horrible all the time. No, I'm not saying that this deserves pity, and that boohoo woe is me, I'm saying that there is still much work to be done.

"The economy doesnt need to be criticized" is fucking retarded. What are you afraid of? That were going to descend into some kind of savage war of rape and murder if we try to reform our economy or social values to be better?

you can play with the definition to argue that although poorer in cash terms, people are richer due to the improved quality of goods on offer. The inflation-adjusted value of an old black and white shit TV could buy a fancy HDTV with money to spare, but in cash terms you'd be no better off. It's not a good system, but it's the best good-faith way to argue living standards have improved.

Long ass post that says nothing. Could the words of a politicians or a journalist, hence of a cuck. We are not happy and we will be more and more sad in the future simply because technology leads to sadness, nihilism, depression. We have already crossed the border of the usefulness of technology. The next inventions or upgrades will be only harmful. The only progress we can still desire is the progress in the health field.
>but needs evolve with technology!
No, the basic needs of the human being have been the same for millions and millions of years. Anyone who thinks there are needs yet to satisfy through new technology is completely alienated from reality.

It's not that I disagree with the post, it's just that it doesn't go the heart of the problem. The problem is the belief that we need more technology. Also, I question the claim that the quality of life peaked a few decades ago. From a material point of view, for sure, but people were not happier than today. Traditionalism has been around for over a century. Coincidence? I don't think so.
