One of the greatest if not the greatest works. Deals with death, jealousy, love (or desire, possession), and if it only dealt with those three things it'd be the best but it talks of everything in life and Proust has about 1,000 analogies for you because he's Schopenhauer's inherent in that sense except he takes the philosophy and psychology and applies it to everyday life just like Sch said a novel should do. The influence is obvious. It's been noted by scholars. Clear, precise, fondness for analogy, idealism, the obssession with the demon that is the sexual impulse. Seriously, if you have any experience at all with men and women and family then read Proust.
