Do you pick reading over gym?

Go to the gym for one hour three times a week and you'll be better looking than 90% of people. Read for a half hour to an hour every day (or even every other day really) and you'll be more well-read than 90% of people. That's easily manageable and leaves plenty of time for work and a social life.

Don't fool yourself, doing one is not an excuse for not doing the other.

Are you so sure, anon? What if I'm ugly? I am thin and my face isn't the prettiest. What kind of exercises should I be doing as a skinny guy? I only do planks and crunches and other exercises for posture.

I've never understood how people don't have time to spend 50 minutes at the gym and have time to read. I mean you're up for 14 hours a day right? Manage your time better.

Ugly and buff always trumps ugly and scrawny/fat. Always. If you have some muscle you will have better posture, better attitude, better fitting clothing, better atmosphere. Unless you have a terrible facial disability, there is no reason to skip the gym. Look at the guy in pic related, just look at him. He has no legs and probably looks better and more reliable than you ever will.

Yes, I am sure.

Diet is more than half the battle for us skinny folk. Start eating at a caloric surplus, but don't eat shitty food. Try to get a gram of protein for every pound you weigh every day. Then look up the 5x5 stronglifts program, it's a good start.

I'm 6'2" and I was 145 pounds when I started, looked like a holocaust survivor. After six months I was 175; not incredible, but I looked considerably better without a shirt on. I haven't been back to the gym in a while unfortunately because of life but I've been able to retain the weight with bodyweight exercises because of my dietary changes.

Most importantly, you will feel better and more confident after every day. People (including women) will notice your energy. You'll be able to meet new challenges with a sense of "I got this" instead of "how will I ever do this." You'll command more attention and respect in everyday conversations. Perception is reality, and if you feel like you look better you'll act like it too, even if the real change is marginal. These are the real reasons to work out, not to become some beefed-up Arnold or anything.

You better realize that number should be something like 16 or 17 for a healthy, functioning adult. You aren't an adult until you've had some all nighters between work days as well.

Coming to Dairy Queen after a three day Adderall bender is how Thomas raises such fine young lads at home. He is a true adult.

Lifting "weights" in incremental manner is pessimal hypertrophic exercise that, beyond producing a surrogate sense of achievement within oneself, and/or a superficial impression within superfluous individuals, only serves to occlude freedom of motion within one's Body, thereby, ultimately, and in recursive manner, pessimally effecting one's Psykhe. The only aerobic and anaerobic exercises that one needs to practice regularly in order to optimally free, maintain alignment within, and build firmness of, Body, are those of: running, stretching, corebased strengthening, in that order of importance. Restore the purity, and freedom, of the child body, stop hastening its decay.

I do read as well, but painting is my primary passion/profession. The only reason honestly i'd want to life is to acquire more females which i already get, but maybe i feel like i'm selling my soul if i commit to the /fit/ life fully.

I've got some starting tips if there are anon's here who would like to start working out more. Just slowly start educating yourself on working out and nutrition, it's not difficult at all it's just a lot of information so do some research each day. I'm a personal trainer myself and when people ask me for good sources i normally redirect them to Athlean-x. Learned a lot from this dude he's got great free content on youtube which is easy to understand. So if you don't have a gym with good instructors in your neighbourhood just start watching some of his content and get fucking started!

Forgot to add this, if you don't know how to get started i normally advise people to start with 3x a week fullbody so like: Monday-Wednesday-Friday. Just pick a exercise for:
- Chest (push ups)
- Shoulders (overhead press if you have materials otherwise pike push ups)
- Back (pull ups)
- Legs (Squats/Lunges)
- Core (look for some 5-10 min. core workouts on yt)
Do each exercise 3-4 times, if it gets too easy there are a lot of variants available to make it harder, best thing is to just get started.

Nonsense.
If you are average looking, let's say, you do not compete with the ugly ones. They are not even in the same category as they do not come into the picture at any point. Just as saying that having an IQ 100 puts you far ahead others. Try picking a specific field like STEM, law, medicine, and see how far 'ahead' it put you. It's not about the number that is left behind. It's about the number you can actively compete against.
Now, you can take gym more lightly because if you go to the gym 3 times a week, you are not likely to prepare for the competition and devote significant part of your free time to it.
As far as books are concerned, then if you read half an hour everyday, then you may looks smart in the room full of people who don't read, but you will look like an illiterate if you happen to be in the room of slightly above average educated and well-read people.
Don't compete with people with subpar results and claim you're doing better. Pick a room with people who you can compete with and show what you can do.

As a fellow skinny guy, run and lift weights, i saw stronglifts mentioned, it is great, compound exercises in general i feel are great too. Yes the extrinsic motivators (confidence, physical attraction, etc) can be pleasant, but ultimately the intrinsic motivation of being addicted to the neurochemical release of feel good soup that comes with a hard workout becomes a reason in itself.

I dont run in the nevada desert during summer for anyone else. I dont do it for pussy. Or money. Or looks. I do it for me. There is no one out there where i run. Just me and the burning sun.

Exercise is so much more than physical appearance. It can be an internal appearance. To know that today i ran more than i did yesterday. Or swam or whatever your thing is. I like running because i hate running.

If the intrinsic motivator isnt real to you as it is to me, dietXexerciseXgood sleepXconsistency also make you more mentally willing to read.

im opposed to that logic despite enjoying its benefits. it's hard to pursue any activity as a means to another end, and i can't often stand the split between present and future for long.

i'd wager it's more meaningful to find the 'fun' in anything for its own merits, rather than tacking something else on it post facto. no wonder i don't make that much money, and feel perfectly alright with it. i've been trying to see the fun in making money but i can't - is there something i'm missing?
