you all didn't tell me the that the Bible would depress me further
>2 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.
>3 What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?
>4 One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.
>5 The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose.
>6 The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits.
>7 All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.
>8 All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.
>9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
>10 Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.
>11 There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after.

It's talking about the futility of man's endeavours. The only thing that is everlasting is God.

We have to pretend that Christianity is the most original and perfect culture ever created, anon. That's the convention, unfortunately. Why? Because the authorities have demanded so for thousands of years. Though I personally follow those other, better cultures rather than the distorted, discount-version of them which engrained itself within culture simply by having the greatest political infrastructure around itself.

I never get why people think that. Jesus was just starting to recite psalm 22. It's particularly relevant because

>15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.
>16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.
>17 I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.
>18 They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.

And it ends in

>26 The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the Lord that seek him: your heart shall live for ever.
>27 All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the Lord: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.
>28 For the kingdom is the Lord's: and he is the governor among the nations.
>29 All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship: all they that go down to the dust shall bow before him: and none can keep alive his own soul.
>30 A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.
>31 They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.

Which is quite hopeful, in my opinion. I think that for people who were at the crucifixion and heard Jesus say "Eli, Eli, lama zabatani", knowing it refered to psalm 22, would have felt less "despairful".
