Read Trent Dalton's Boy Swallows Universe after someone one I worked with gave me a copy. It was pretty good, but the dad was the most relatable character I've come across. Who'd have thought a pathetic violent drunken father crippled with anxiety and obsessed by literature would be so relatable to a pathetic violent drunken young man filled regret, crippled by anxiety and obsessed by literature

To be quite honest with thee I only picked it up because I heard Julien Sorel was a /literally-me/ character before /literally-me/ characters were a thing because a lot of the book revolves around him thinking that he was /literally/ Napoleon and kept pictures of the Emperor under his pillow and shit.

Pretty good book though. Best description would be a French Crime and Punishment

Damn you're on a different level of Biblical exegesis, you should start writing dense symbolic novellas in the realm of Gustav Meyrink that blur the line between reality and unreality, fiction and documentary, while being bestsellers in their own time. So basically Dan Brown but at a quarter of the length and not shit, that would be the dream

Not sure about that anon but Quentin Compson comes off very similarly to me and probably much of /lit/. He narrates part of The Sound and the Fury, but that's an incredibly difficult intro to Faulkner. The first hundred pages or so are told from the point of view of a guy who has something like down syndrome, and can't really comprehend anything happening around him, specifically by not having a concrete sense of time.
As I Lay Dying is where I started with Faulkner and probably a good entry point. Quentin isn't in it though. I think he narrates part of Absalom, Absalom as well, but I haven't read it yet.
