Does anyone here meditate, pray, do yoga, perform rituals, and/or practice anthropotechnics and/or spiritual exercises? I think it would be nice to have a general for perennialist mysticism...

I do yoga, it feels good. It has been rather watered down in the past decade or so and most of what people in the west call yoga these days has little resemblance to what it actually is. It started as just a way to exercise in the winter, has become a regular practice.

Hatha yoga got exported to the US in the 60s, stayed fairly pure for abit then got reduced down to the asana and meditation with a bit of the breathing practice, philosophical and spiritual aspects were essentially gone. Then in the 90s it started to really catch on, all these self taught yogis that just took what they liked and made up the rest started to profit, things really started to explode and sometime during to 00s these bastards became the norm with hatha becoming the minority.

>>14000145
Find a teacher, it is worth it and you will develop 10 times faster, plus you will not have to unlearn poor practice and will be far less likely to injure yourself. Look for teacher that does small classes, half a dozen or less, and one on one, a weekly group session and a monthly one on one is a good place to start. Hatha Yoga is the most common, it is essentially Patanjali Yoga with more emphasis on healthy body healthy mind and is likely what you want to start with, you will have many teachers to choose from and getting the basics there will give you the knowledge you need to find the branch most suites to you if you want something that is more focused on the spiritual and philosophical.

Muslim here, I pray the Salah (the 5 times a day prayer where we recite the quran) and meditate sometimes. Salah and dua (supplicative prayers such as "oh God help me with this) bring much ease to my heart and strengthen my faith. I become more aware of God through prayer and meditation is nice but mostly just for relaxing mentally and strengthening my imagination. I prefer prayer to my standard meditations of head clearing and visualization, though i occasionally "contemplate the beauty of God" in meditation and it is difficult / overwhelming but beneficial. I mostly just focus on cultivating virtue and praying often and i think once ive made enough good habits ill focus more on elevating my soul towards the contemplation of beauty, but for no i think its best i just pray salah and try to become more virtuous (im sure that sounds cringe but it makes me happy) . Im not super into yoga but i may try it in the future.

I don't know if it's esoteric but after beating someone up and feeling like my life was spiralling out of control I did the born again boomer thing of trying to turn to God. But I find the pre-existing organised religions unconvincing. Too much obvious bs to reconcile. But then I started to carve out my own understanding of God and it was actually really therapeutic, to see him reflected in nature and hence myself and all of man reflected in him.
I've at least leveled out now, stopped doing crazy shit. But I'm still in the grip of thinking crazy shit (catastrophising, defeatism, feelings of hopelessness and paranoia). I'm thinking of beginning some little rituals in my own little private religion of one. Like having a little shrine for meditation, prayer and reflection. I've even written a morning prayer and evening prayer.
I experience a lot of guilt about knowing what I want from life and exactly how to get it but being too depressed and unmotivated to just fucking do it bros. It hurts me that I'm smart enough to make it, but its wasted on me while there are so many out there that work hard but just don't have my cheeky knack for being quite effective when I can be bothered to apply myself. Not him anon, but I would consider seeking religious guidance to supplicate this path of yours. There is no such thing as «obvious bs» in religion because it is very literally irrational, but the point is that the instructions and wisdom are as a technology for you to connect with God. It will be in your favor to read the Quran, the Bible, even the Tao Te Ching because these books instruct you on the Way. The Quran i must recommend highly as a Muslim and specifically as a Muslim who used to be into the occult and try the whole «my own way» thing. It is just so much easier and more fulfilling to have concise instructions to follow with very quickly visible rewards after putting the, to practice. I understand how it may seem like religion is nonsense because of politics and apparent contradictions, but a large part of faith is seeing past and understand the beauty and truth of religion (theoretically all but again I have bias towards the monotheistic and doesn’t really believe polytheism is as clear a path) because it is much more profound than what a political issue or logical contradiction can appear to diminish.

This just depresses me. We can not even have one single thread on this board shared between ALL of the the other religions and their millions of followers. We have Christian and Muslim threads, if people want your advice they know where to get it. Everywhere I go it is this bullshit or politics, just let us have one thread.

I am not telling you to convert to anything but saying that the books are meant to guide you and that you shouldn’t judge them too quickly just because of their reputation. If that was too much then I apologize, I just feel like there is a lot of wisdom to be gained and it may have helped you.

Islam «makes the most sense». But that’s to say, the conciseness and clarity of instruction and the immediacy of the reward made it the obvious choice. The Quran moved my heart a couple years ago and I took my shahdah last summer. Islam, in my opinion, is more praxis based than Catholicism because I feel that the guidance is more clear than in the Bible and being able to pray the Salah as well as adhere to the sunnah benefits the soul so much. Christianity is beautiful and I sometimes read the New Testament because Christ was full of wisdom, but ultimately, the tools of communication with God that Islam provides are more preferable to me. The Salah being my most treasured because I don’t think most people understand how beautiful and fulfilling it is to pray 5 times a day, although sometimes it feels like a chore, i always am happier after doing it, or at least satisfied with what I’ve done. And the Quran is just so wonderful to read, unfortunately I am not fluent in Arabic and only understand what I recite, but even in English I am moved by it and feel my faith strengthened. I also just think Sunni thinking is congenial for me, I am someone who likes fixed structure towards spiritual fulfillment and I think Sunni Muslims, at least in my experience, don’t try to pull punches with the instructions the way some Christians do. As how some sects dont believe in hell or forbid you from alcohol, as well as many other rules and ideas that are simply glossed over. Islam is perfect for me. Why do you like Catholicism?

Well, I try to meditate regulary, there is definitely no necessary connection between a meditation practice and esoterics. Meditation is an exercise that can help you to let go of unproductive thoughts and focus better on things that seem more important. Its really healthy in many ways, you should look it up.

But ofcouse it is also problematic to meditate just to be more "productive", there is definitely more to it than that. It is dificult to put it into words without using "esoteric" vocabulary, but I think one could say meditation can help recalibrating. In life you essantially have to be one the move the whole time, as soon as you settle for certain attitudes and beliefs you run the risk of interpreting every new (and possibly contradictory) experience through the lense of your beliefs. Meditation can help you to become a product of the world, as much as you make the would a product of your actions. So its about balance.

Sounds gay, I know.

There is yin and yang. Usually yin and yang dance but sometimes yin and yin or yang and yang. Sometimes yin feels like yang or vice reversa and gets medicine or surgery to help their mind and body be more like their ideal. Sometimes yin and yang even mix together! Obviously it is some sort of physical or mental illness in such cases but so is autism and depression and diabetes and other things for which we do not judge and many take pills for. Alchemy and medicine were once highly intertwined. Often shamanic people are quite unusual. Shamanic sickness and the magical androgyne are common archetypes. Make of that what you will.

A zoologist who observed gorillas in their native habitat was amazed by the uniformity of their life and their vast idleness. Hours and hours without doing anything. Was boredom unknown to them? This is indeed a question raised by a human, a busy ape. Far from fleeing monotony, animals crave it, and what they most dread is to see it end. For it ends, only to be replaced by fear, the cause of all activity. Inaction is divine; yet it is against inaction that man has rebelled. Man alone, in nature, is incapable of enduring monotony, man alone wants something to happen at all costs — something, anything.... Thereby he shows himself unworthy of his ancestor: the need for novelty is the characteristic of an alienated gorilla.

It's like mentioning Ben Shapiro as a philosopher when talking about the Greeks, crystal powers is bottom of the barrel tier.
You just have a biased view on the occult, most of this stuff is grounded on reality (not ALL of it but most of it is). Being open minded doesn't mean leaving the ground it means accepting the contradictions of life.
For example while I don't believe that Tarot can predict the future or anything, I accept it's a really good ritualistic approach on self reflection and projection, so I read it to my close ones all the time. You just have to take all this with a grain of salt.

I used to have this book. From what I can remember, it was a pretty good introduction of nordic mythology. There's also A History of Pagan Europe, European Paganism and Pagan Britain, which are all good sources for pre-christian beliefs. I got these from a book on the pre-christian beliefs in my country, but it's written in dutch, so it won't be of use to non-dutch speakers. Also, Tacitus' Germania has a section on pre-christian beliefs in Northern Europe, and there's the Eddas, but they have been colored by the Christians who wrote down those stories, so what you do with those stories is up to you. I've personally never understood the hate the Eddas get, as in my opinion, both the pre-christian and Christian beliefs have their place in history, and I think that benefitting from both is perfectly okay, as have many of my ancestors in the past

Is pomo occult?

>Early on in Karman, Agamben recounts an old Rabbinic story in which Satan, 'the accuser', finds himself standing condemned before God. Sentenced to the eternal darkness, Satan nonetheless objects to the Almighty: "Lord of the world, all the power you have demonstrated by descending into the flames to condemn me really does not belong to you: above you, there is another Power" - the power, of course, of God's own accusatory power, which in Agamben's retelling, is nothing other than the ultimate subject of judgment: it is judgement itself that stands in judgement, calling for the creation of a new world free from all powers of accusation. It's a little parable - one among a delightful few invoked in Agamben's 'brief treatise' - but one which nicely encapsulates the book's critical trajectory, which aims to answer a question posed by Kafka in the only epigraph that begins the book: "How can a human being be guilty?".

Kant > Artaud > Bataille > Marx > Nietzsche > D&G > CCRU/Land
Then for the occultism specific I'm planning on reading and practicing work from the Golden Dawn because it seems to be the most established and influential current system.

I am posting this because perhaps the schizo/symbolic internal reasoning will be understood and aesthetically appreciated by someone in the thread.
If one believes in the Contingency of man, then one necessarily believes in a God, yet perhaps one which is enigma; to such nominal case minds, the impression reigns, and so too in lack of these: Confusion. Serving as epitaph, then is the immoral act (and immorality its self) said and thought to be by Gods will, but known to be by the evil which eats substance from out of thy bowels, and becomes M.E, the great annihilator of faith. The grave becomes a furtive field to your only hope.
yet would not become thy ideal, held always to any sight of reality, dressing it in wedding veil, awaiting the penetration of psychedelic needles, delusional beauty, comforting teet.
To know no God - as embodiment of the law - is to have all impiety and action, ascribed to this moral vacuum. All channels close. All action is weakness. It is to conceive the self as violator, which is hated in equal measure to Christ.

This >>14026706 is a good poetic way of putting it. I would put it more prosaically that real mysticism has to do with non-duality, final enlightenment, union with the ground of all Being, however this is characterized by different religions — whether it’s becoming one with God/Allah/Brahman as in Christian, Jewish, Hindu, or Muslim mysticism, or whether it’s becoming one with a more impersonal and Eastern conception of the Absolute, as in the Tao or Buddha-nature. (Obviously this language I’m using right now is apparently very misleading because it seems to gloss over the differences of these religions, and it especially is misleading about Buddhism, as they explicitly often argue against the idea of something “higher” or “greater” to be one with).

Magic is the deliberate search for and development of paranormal/extrasensory abilities and experiences. These abilities are called “siddhis” by Hindus and Buddhists. It’s a common belief amongst Hindus and Buddhists that treading the path to enlightenment can cause one to develop siddhis, but that these can actually be distractions from the ultimate Goal.

From a more understandable a Western and Christian viewpoint, you could say that saints and prophets often have developed miraculous abilities, but they didn’t SEEK to develop these abilities, they came as a result of their love of God. “Seek ye first the kingdom of heaven, and all these [miraculous abilities] will be added to you.”

Mysticism can lead to and even include magic as a “side effect”, but magic doesn’t necessarily lead to or include true spirituality or mysticism, however exotic, occult, and titillating it may be.

Happy hunting!

Plenty of ancient cultures had figures or classes of androgynous / hermaphroditic people, sometimes using large amounts of herbs containing phytoestrogens similar to purifica mirifica. Also, Matthew 19:12 says "For there are eunuchs who were born that way; others were made that way by men; and still others live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it."

The trans people who don't go sonichu-batshit appear to be interested in fields pertaining to existentialism and deep thought more often than the average Joe, for example Martine Rothblatt who funds research into transhumanism (which I think is bunk, but it's illustrative). A lot of transgender people I've met are interested in philosophy, futurology and in general studies that pertain to the future of human existence. Perhaps this is because the experience of gender dysphoria challenges the ego from a much earlier age than many have to deal with thoughts of mortality and impermenance of identity, putting them "closer" to spirituality. The same is probably true for varying degrees of chronic illness, terminal illness and some mental health conditions. For what it's worth I don't think gender dysphoria is a psychological condition but a complex in which neuro-developmental factors are involved, which would explain why it doesn't respond to psychiatric therapies and has a high correlation with autism without a total overlap of incidence or symptoms. I'm trans myself and am missing the part of my brain that deals with kinesthesia and body image due to hypoxic brain injury at birth (I have severe dyspraxia, a minor palsy in the right side of my body and some memory issues, but my linguistic and conceptual intelligence is higher than average), so I've thought about this a lot.

Well they're not me, hi I'm the trannyposter again. Why did you have to get so upset? I said very early on I don't make any claims to womanhood. I'm androgynous certainly but not female.

What do all of these books say, and what is their main import in which they all intersect? I get the feeling reading all of these intro books is not a requirement if you at least read a few of them.

You have a kind soul if your posts are to be believed. Not him but Evola's Eros and the Metaphysics of Sex, Weininger's Sex and Character, and Solovyov's Meaning of Love are good books about trad dualistic binary metaphysics of love and sex...

I hate that even on a pretty decent humanities board that stays comparatively on-topic most of the time, compared to e.g. /tv/, we can't have one single interesting conversation on the philosophical and cultural implications of transgenderism without it descending into /pol/tard memes. This was a good thread until 50 or so posts ago and now it's all "dilate" and "seethe" and "jewish conspiracy" like a hundred other threads on 4chan at any one time. It's so repetitive and boring.

such a shame, but it´s not /pol/ fault´s entirely, blame the sjw uprising of 2012 for that
