What is the meaning of the whole "First as tragedy, then as farce" quote by Marx/Hegel?

dialectical reading of history. example: 9-11

>> No.13939857

It is about how we learn as a group.
Things have to repeat, or you can't learn from them. So when bad things happen in history they follow the pattern that you try something new and it fails and a bad thing happens, then tragically someone decided to use the bad thing to exploit under cover of them "this time" not making the same mistake, then farcically someone exploits again because there are those in the group that are so stupid as to fall for it even though it has failed twice before.
So history repeats, first repeat is tragedy because the bad thing is counted on for exploitation, second repeat is farce because people "seriously can't be this stupid as to fall for it again!"

I like switching narrators to see how the story changes. Too many times people lock themselves into the solipsistic narrator not realizing that our identity comes from a compilation of all the different narrators of all of our stories.

Seeing from the narrative position of the group, and not a member of the group, leads to the kind of analysis that Hegel could not make, speaking as he does from some impossible reality narrator he just assumed that ignores that the subject could not itself make the reality narrator that sees it.

But still, I would bet Marx (assuming the quote was really his and not just borrowed from some cynical friend) would agree, albeit in not such a mechanical frame, choosing instead a moral frame that emphasized the emotion.

Were there ever? Which questions whether the story of how fascism is supposed to work was not always just a wish and not a plan.

It has always been a wonder to me how the religious could support tyranny, but when you present the illusionary veneer of propaganda in a way that seems like it might work, and couch the objections in sophistry, I guess you can sell almost anything without any evidence of it actually working.

Exploitation is about hiding the win/lose inside the win/win....
So if there hasn’t been any Fascists, how do you know Fascism works?

It's merely an application of Hegels triad: thesis-antithesis-synthesis. First(thesis)a proposition is made, second(antithesis) it's conclusion doesn't work out(tragedy) third this action is understood as such(synthesis) and is dishonestly proposed again for greedy purposes (farce). Now I am sure you see how this is encompassed and understood in hegels three categories: firstness secondness and thirdness. It clearly demonstrates the dialectical materialists denial of firstness (marx disagrees with hegel about matter being effete mind) and the poor grasp that hegel had on continuity when his beautiful brain farted out dialectics, perhaps the most profound brainfart ever written.

Then why did they have to invade other countries? If fascism worked, then no one would have cared. But it did not work and required the invasion of others to distract from its failure, which is why it was stamped out..

... See...This is the farce. How can people be so gullible as to fall for the same exploitation over and over again. Marx wrote of Capitalism and why over and over again do people continue to fall for the exploitation.

The answer is that there are those within a group that simply cannot ever learn from the mistakes of others.

Baudrillard explains this well in "The Consumer Society".
Farce is
>caricatural resurrection of legendary reference
>the exaltation of signs on the basis of a denial of the real
Examples he gives are gas fireplaces in modern houses made to look like realistic wood fires and designated natural parks preserved as wilderness is developed.

Real wood fireplaces, the use of which involved the strenuous effort of chopping wood out of genuine need for their warmth to survive; and the wilderness, a journey into which used to be a matter of life and death, were "the real" to Baudrillard.

Once these harsh 'realities' have been conquered, made obsolete, are they allowed to come back as 'farce', neutered throwbacks ready for safe mass consumption.

As >>13939880's image implies - do you think the System would allow /pol/tards to roleplay Nazis if there was even the slightest chance that fascism today posed a legitimate threat to the established order? Even just a couple decades after WW2, Sid Vicious could get away with pic related because everyone knew the nazis had been definitively BTFO.

I agree with Baudrillard there, but what happens when people don’t see the farce as neutered and perceive it as the real?

It would seem to me then that group would be entirely unprepared for an encounter with the actual real i.e. if a tourist went to a national park and thought that the softened, safer version was all there was to nature, a defanged nature so to speak.

But I suppose Baudrillard argues that there is no real anything anymore, and more and more I believe him

Most people take it to mean that anything that is repeated is silly and will fail. This is not true. What it means is that people who try to recreate and parody the past in the present make a mockery of themselves and are blinded to the reality of their situation. You can't just take the past and replay it, you need to make something new that is rooted in the present.

Well this is true. People who try to act like Lenin and Stalin and parade around in Soviet military uniforms are just as in error as the fascists who idolize Hitler. The Soviet Union was a triumph and a high point of human achievement, but its gone now. Communists who run around thinking socialism in their country will look like and be like the soviet union with all its symbols and aesthetics are making a fool of themselves. Socialism has to adapted to the material conditions of your society, you can't just take the USSR or Maoist China and copy-paste onto your nation.
