Is it better for a man to live a lie and be unfulfilled. Or for that man to embrace who and what he is. Even if what that is is horrible?

Does any author touch on this

Did Jung ever consider what if an individuals shadow is better than their real selves

You cannot live a lie and be fulfilled, and you cannot embrace who and what you are, truly, without becoming fulfilled.

In a similar vein, this. Though, in this case it's more "A man WILL embrace who and what he is, it IS horrible, and he WILL live a lie and be unfulfilled."

Yes. Jung wrote a lot on this - the shadow is not "bad," it is simply comprised of what we are not aware of - in most people, that happens to be a lot of uncomfortable things because we prefer to repress or ignore what makes us uncomfortable. However, if, for example, someone has low self-esteem, exploring their shadow could reveal to them their own self-worth, that they had been "hiding" from themselves.
