Ask /x/ instead, this place is full of people trying to dickwave how much smarter they are because they read some books. It’s like /sci/ but even worse.

When I was a kid my mom bought me a book about astronomy and physics and it had that illustration. Used to trip me out and make me wonder what it meant. Wish I still had that book.

Reading Hans Jonas would be a decent place to start. Kirsten Grimstad's The Modern Revival of Gnosticism and Thomas Mann's Doktor Faustus has a good summary of the modern scholarship on gnosticism I think, which is useful as an introduction to critical historiography of gnosticism. The rest of the book is so-so.

The picture isn't wrong. Only about 15% of The Bible is actually insightful or interesting in any way at all.

hannegraaff's dictionary of gnosis and western esotericism is on libgen.

But elaine pagels' gnostic gospels is still a fun intro. You need the nag hammadi codicies, get the robinson translation.

The bible is also an occult book itself, but yeah, additions are essential too.
