Do you ever read to show off?

>> No.13906543

Show off how? Like bragging about reading something or quoting some piece of lit to others? No.

Have occasionally read in the open so people will ask me about it, but never really to show off

>> No.13906639

My friends know that i read because i often read i public because i dont like losing time.

In terms of showing off, i just say the name of the book that i am reading if they ask me, otherwise, i would never tell them.

>> No.13906724

I only read when there are other people around to see what book I’m reading. Otherwise what’s the point?

>> No.13906746

Yes.
I buy 3 or 4 classic books every month, read the first pages and then drop them to read whatever fantasy im reading at the time.
Then I proceed to tell my peers about the great books I read

Never, I always try to isolate, hide myself when reading.

I have read at most like 3 books in my life. People think I'm an intellectual genius just because I read the wikipedia page on a book and based on that I make up the rest and I'm able to talk about it.

>> No.13906787

>>13906781
YouTube is good for this too. I just look up 6 minute summaries on all the great philosophers and everyone thinks I am brilliant.

It's great.

Not at all. I do post pictures of complex books on the internet though.

yeah I pretend to read philosophy at work but I just blankly stare at the pages while I listen to an audiobook of game of thrones or harry potter. everyone thinks im a super intellectual lmaooo

Absolutely never. 0%.

And I think the issue is that with other people there is always a minimum percentage of this, but with me I don't care who the author is as long as I'm gaining intellectual progression.

So I'll read a lot of stuff no one else reads in whatever community I'm involved in. :3

Sometimes there are some alignments on here, but infrequently. I've definitely had an influence on this culture though.

No but I usually bring in novels to work on slow days to pass time as most sites are blocked.
I was reading Goethe Faust part 1 and someone actually asked me about it; telling me they have never heard of him before.
I've never been more bewildered before. I felt bad, because I think he took it as an insult.

I'll tell you right now buddy

No one is impressed that you read or by any books you've read. No one. Not me, not the girl you're trying to fuck, not your mom or dad. No one.

Of course. I do it by reading in cafés or on the Seine banks, sometimes even while walking in the street.
It's a great motivation for reading. I get my ego boost, I get my reading done and perhaps the attention of some based historian or some qt, and I sometimes get to recommend quality books to plebs who are curious about a guy reading in public.

So it's a win for everyone.

Never. I actually try to hide that I read as much as I can (unless prompted by questions. I do post on social media when I finish a book simply to raise awareness that people still read )

This is the driving factor in most book fads. The plebs is satisfied with name-dropping and/or dust jackets on a shelf. In the Ivy League they will silently mark you as a poser if you can't quote anything past the first chapter of a book doesn't matter if you understoodd it though.

Some people have discussed putting two screens on the Kindle so "readers" can show off their dust jacket when in public.

>Some people have discussed putting two screens on the Kindle so "readers" can show off their dust jacket when in public.

Should just have a function where the kindle reads the title out loud at random intervals, together with a brief summary of the author's literary credentials
