What if the world we inhabit is a psychological projection? What if our reality is an externalisation of our internal make-up? What if we are the camera and reality is the screen? Ostensibly separate but actually a result of said metaphorical camera. This is of course an extension of solipsism; a concept I really enjoy thinking about.

You mean almost like shadows on a cave wall? Very original idea OP. Write a paper, get it published.

I didn't think the allegory of the cave was solipsistic. In my post the shadows come from INSIDE you.

I was yanking your chain a bit, but it's not totally off base to say they're inside you with that allegory, but that's partly because the lines are drawn a bit weird there between what is inisde and out. Freud wrote a lot about this kind of idea but I can't off hand directly cite anything.

I would say it's a little bit more advanced than Kant, though I've never read any of his stuff.

No, Kant believed in an external universe, however, direct perception of it was impossible because our cognitive modalities structure and conform sensory input to their schemas. The world we experience is sort of digested and distorted from its true essence.

If the world is my Idea, as per Schopenhauer, I should be able to exhibit more executive control over it just by thinking about it. Why should my idea behave independently from my intentions? It should act as a lucid dream. Its inability to be influenced by thought would distinguish it from every other idea I have, which would therefore exclude it from the category. Therefore it is not my projection.

>No, Kant believed in an external universe
The singularity in Kant cannot be emphasised enough: there is only one thing in itself.

Does the camera determine the film it projects? Or is there an outside agent i.e. God who chooses what you perceive?

You've never seen reality. You are limited by your human perceptions. Your eyes only see a tiny sliver of the whole electromagnetic spectrum known as the visible light spectrum.

I thought that was more of a Schopenhauer thing, or that Kant at least was never super clear about it
