I'd say the most disgusting thing I've seen in humans is narcissism of all sorts. Narcissism isn't about having too much confidence, though, as often misunderstood, but having a complex about having zero confidence.

well i dont see the difference between 'over-confidence' & 'confidence' personally other than the extent of it. people like to imagine there's this imaginary line where suddenly you have too much confidence. The line is at confidence itself because it's believing you can do things for no reason other than the fact that you think you're the best.

for the confident person they dont take a decision solely based on the evidence evidence of succeeding, the bet on chance because their ego is so great that they think they can beat any odds regardless of what they are just because the are the best.

& that's disgusting in practice because person A could have more evidence backing them succeeding in a position yet they still pass on it because its not enough whereas person B could be less qualified/less evidence of their abilities but be willing to go take the position because they're so pompous & do it worse than person A would handle it.

Also we don´t know if person A or B can do something better, they can have evidence which says why they may be better, but if they don´t do it, then it is useless. Finally we must see that we can´t know everything from the beginning, there are many things which happen, yet we can not aniticpate them. In this case, someone who had the guts, the will to do something, will prove to have a better qualification than the weak individual who isnt willing to.

The only reason I have a low self-confidence is strictly because there's such a thin line between being confident and coming off as a douche-bag. I rather enjoy just doing what I do now by being a good person instead of trying to make up for confidence I don't have. This is just me. For everyone else if they have confidence and continue to be a cool and down-to-earth person, I have nothing wrong with it.

I do hate the confidence gurus around and the attitude of worthless people (read: people I don't like). Attitude is not everything and fuck, it is not the most important thing. Not if you actually want to get whatever you are doing right. I have seen the flashy, confident types fuck up, because they are too blind to possible outcomes or their own ability. It does disgusts me that confidence has always been the selling point for the masses, in politics, bussiness and love.
But. That happens for a reason. Confident people will perform better, most of the time. Even completely deluded self confidence can actually get the unlikely job done. And if they are confident, we tend to assume it's for a reason. It often is.
Now, confidence doesn't have to be arrogance. Confidence is bravery and courage. Humility and resilience. It's not fighting to be a "leader", that is arrogance. Something needs to be done and you will give it your all. That is confidence. Not a footballer douche in highschool. Tiannmen's square man looking at the tanks, not Mussolini lying at the masses.

This is definitely a Tybrax thread. It's got that authentic stamp of pointlessness.

Both people are weighing things inaccurately, the over-confident look at things too little, and so they take possibly dangerous decisions. The under confident however weigh things too much, and so they miss opportunities. I think in most situations that we face today the over-confident are at an advantage, because the world (at least the western world) is a relatively safe place.

The other down-side is that the under confident don't just weigh things impartially, or even correctly. For example, most passerbys don't give a shit what you look like, they will forget about you as quickly as you enter their mind. Yet most of the underconfident people I meet (including myself when I was a teen) are crippled by how others see them.

Also, since the original question is have you ever seen anything more disgusting come from a person? Here's a list off the top of my head that are: Spite, malice, dropping a shit, selfishness, vomit, violence, passive aggression, a man's jizz colliding with another man's grizzly beard.

The other flaw in your assumption is that those who are confident would do a job worse. One, most tasks have a ceiling effect, you can only do so well at them, so past a certain point thinking is worthless. Two, careful consideration is not the only difference between the confident and unconfident; people are often confident BECAUSE they're good at something, likewise others are often unconfident because they unrealistically weigh negatives.

The person who is so "unegoistic" so as to not approach somebody won't get on with them at all, because they will never meet. It's impossible to know how well you will get on with another person, or who would get on with them better, until you've actually met them.

Yes, people will try to succeed, and those with the optimism to believe that they will succeed are more likely to do so because they won't hesitate in the attempt.
Past a very fixed line between "right and wrong", most people will see that which is "right" as being that which suits them best (although people have reservations about not wanting to inflict too much harm on others in the process).
