I just finished The Count earlier today. I didn't like how Danglars got off easy, and I also didn't like the contrived take-a-pill-that-makes-you-look-like-you-are-dead device, which has been used everywhere from Romeo and Juliet to the Wolverine film. Yeah funny you should mention that when I saw Life and Fate, I said to myself, "What is with these Russians and their insanely long literature? This is War and Peace long!" But then I looked at War and Peace, and said nah, it isn't quite that long.
But it's going quick so far.
And yeah I'll try to acquire that book as quickly as possible. If I stick to it I should be able to read Life and Fate in just a few days. I probably won't have procured a copy of First Circle before then, though.

Overall a very nice experience.

My brother and I always go to Barnes and Noble when we visit home. At most there is usually about 30 people in the store. The other day we went to look around and there had to have been at least 200 people in the store. 45 minute lines and literally no walking room. We left without buying anything, a real rarity for us.

X-mas brings out all the fairweather readers who buy books for family because they can't come up with presents that their relatives will actually like. Plus I doubt half of those books will ever be read. Makes me sad.

If it makes you feel any better, I took all my books I received as Christmas gifts that never got read, and donated them to a local college to raise funds for a scholarship, and what they didn't take I donated to the library. Someone will read them eventually. :3
