Happens only once a year folks. And I know it makes people very happy to receive them than purchase them. There's nothing wrong with gifting, on the very countrary it's a wonderful, beautiful thing.

Fuck. Off.

These are the only threads where people use fucking smileys. So cute, I might just buy you a load of books you can already afford to buy yourself, or maybe that Kindle or PSP or Xbox 360 you by chance just HAPPENED to slipped into your wishlist.

OP here, I don't have the time to play games nor to buy books, I hate all kinds of e-readers, and these two books represent to me both fantastic editions and great content. But I can't afford them, because I have barely enough summer job money left for my college fund, and the timetable is way too dreadful & random for me to get a part time job. SO as much as I may understand - respect, even - your position on gift threads worldwide, you're pretty much wrong on everything.

Honestly, I don't understand why people still read McEwan, he cannot write compelling or convincing female characters and it's all very bland.

Recently I have read and enjoyed the Long Walk by Stephen King. It's a fairly interesting concept and a very easy read. It probably wouldn't help much on an English Lit. course though. While I like the story and the characters, the way it is told is not the greatest and as usual with King, it's got a pretty ropey ending. I thought it was a fun read, most people would probably disagree.

I suggest for your English Lit. course that you read some plays as well as novels and maybe a little poetry. I suggest reading:

The Road.
Death of a Salesman.
A Streetcar Named Desire.
The Handmaid's Tale.
Othello.
Paradise Lost.
Poetry by TS Eliot.
The Crucible.
The Count of Monte Cristo.
Wuthering Heights / Pride and Prejudice / any other book like this that looks interesting.
1984.
Brave New World.
Animal Farm.

You may hate some of these, as they lean towards dystopian fiction and science fiction / fantasy, but they are useful to have read and to know, as well as interesting and some brilliant. It really depends on the course you're doing though, as well as personal preference and what you're in the mood for.

The Plague is no better than The Stranger, but it does expand and refine the concepts in The Stranger, and it indicts the entire community rather than the individual.
>mfw people think Mersault is some kind of coolguy role model and not a pathetic joke.

ur rite. Also, personal responsibility, the role of religion, etc. The Stranger and The Plague are really Camus' best (from what I've read, anyway, I haven't read The Fall or Exile and The Kingdom yet.)

god that's bleak. camus is kind of a jerk. then again, sometimes I think that people who actually experience fascism first hand have a different outlook--we joke about lolocaust and all that but he would probably see the world as somewhat hopeless.

In some ways, I kinda don't blame him. The more I think about the Absurd, the more I sort of want to agree with it...

>>1375955
I love absurdism--but, i've become a kind of 'absurdist christian'--even though everything is arbitrary i choose to view the world from a certain prespective. I think Mersault was like the zero point of absurdism and he doesn't fit into what Camus was saying in The Myth of Sisyphus (at least not at first) I think mersault was Camus' "everyman" the kind of materialist, banal character that he saw around him everyday and the type who made fascism so probable for europe.

Okay come on, wow, 300 posts ? Lots of (likely lonely) readers sharing the love and celebrating a winter tradition thanks to the collective consciousness of emotional unity, warming each others hearts under one the most depressing period of the year ? I got some credit. Plus I'm not a giantwishlistfag.

But I say right now, with no hidden honesty: do not expect me to gift back. No job, no time, barely enough money for university related fees. Maybe summer job, at which point, maybe, able to gift.

Please do not feel offended by my honesty. I hate politicians and false promises.
