Hey /lit/, I just finished House of Leaves and I'm hoping you could point me in the direction of some more books that evoke a deep sense of desolation like this one did for me, any suggestions?

shameless self-bump.

The road by Cormac Mccarthy.

Read it and feel alone in with the world.

I almost wrote that then thought "god, this will start people bitching about THe Road."

Man I loved The Road, read it when I was about 15 when it came out, but the ending definitely got me out of the funk I was feeling throughout the whole thing.

I think the road envokes the atmosphere really well in the mind of the reader, but really i think that's its only merit, everything else is horrible.

McCarthy is really good at atmosphere. No country for old men had a really good feeling of hope and then isolation.

I've only actually read the road, and then that put me off from reading anything else by him.

Read No country for old men or Sunset Limited. Both are great. Sunset limited is an amazing play.

I've seen it mentioned on here that blood meridian is his best? and right now I have a really really long reading list as it is, but I will look into Mccarthy again!
