I can understand this term applying in the past but what about now? It seems like an archaic and irrelevant term now. In most every city I can think of the most desirable and expensive place is the "inner city". Poor people can't afford to live downtown lol. All the poor people are in neighborhoods further out. The "white flight" I'm seeing is to the new condos near the city center or in gentrified neighborhoods that used to be gang turf.
