From cheap swill beer to wine, what alcoholic drinks do you enjoy? I was on another image board and stole this idea, and if /v/ has better drinking taste then /lit/ I will be astounded.

For me, I'm hooked on single malt scotch, but in particular this 15 year old French oak reserve from Glenlivet.

I've been drinking Jamesons'. In part because it was James Joyce's favorite.

In fact, Joyce at one point (possibly while drunk) proposed to James Stephen (the author of the leprechaun novel "The Pot of Gold") that maybe he should finish writing "Finnegans Wake" for Joyce, and they could publish it under the name "JJ&S" which would stand for "James Joyce & Stephens" but also "John Jameson & Sons" (as still depicted on the label to this day, with the Latin motto "sine metu", or "fearless"). This is reported in Richard Ellmann's biography of Joyce, and it still weirds me out. Or just makes me wonder how drunk Joyce actually was.

OP here, I was never much of an alcohol drinker, so I went most of my 18-23 years without drinking anything pretty much. Beer was not interesting enough, if I was being honest with myself I would rather have had a coke. Wine was nice, but not something I enjoyed fully.

Then one day my father told me I had to try this 18 year old Glenlivet.

That pretty much signed the contract to my liver.

My point being, sometimes people just don't like spirits, or they have not found the right one.

To the underage ban I'd suggest coming back when 18, and also trying as wide of a scope of alcohol as you can.

And remember, while terms like 'rum' and 'whiskey' are used, there are huge differences between a sweet rum and a dark spiced rum, and a scotch and Jack Daniels. So don't swear something off unless you just can't stand it.

To me, most American whiskey smells like paint thinner, but most scotch smells like heaven, both of them being 'Whiskey'.

I'm a scotch drinker too. and a huge beer fan. 10 y.o. Talisker gets my highest quality/price prize, and I'm also really big on local québécois microbrew beers. Québec is probably the most underrated beer making nation in the world. I think.
