Sup /lit/. Recommend me some good steampunk or cyberpunk novels. Pic related, it's concept art from a steampunk novel.

You just wanted an excuse to feel smart.

But if you're really as intelligent as your words convey, you'd know that OP obviously doesn't care about shit "other than the contrived aesthetics" you were talking about.

Stop trying to make people smart when they just want to be entertained.

It's pretentious.

And silly.

Nigga wants cyberpunk and steampunk. Not philosophical drivel. If you really want to make him intelligent that bad, then give him steampunk and cyberpunk with hints of philosophical drivel.

Maybe he'll like it and run with it.

/lit/ is dead because the average 4chan user prefers adolescent power fantasies and other forms of escapism because he is a man-child. he is ignorant and frightened of introspection and self-analysis. he would rather live in a fool's paradise full of entertainment all the while being an all around drain on society. he refuses to better himself through reading or exercise and must be mocked at all opportunities until he finally takes responsibility for his situation.

Walk up to 10 adults.

Name ten works of classic literature with good critical reception.

Guarantee most won't have read any of them.

It has nothing to do with "being adult" and reading something "worthwhile" and you know it. You know it boils down to personal aesthetics. Stop trying to act like you're objectively better.

/lit/ is dead because blah blah blah.

Oh God, another "smart guy" trying to recreate a golden age that never existed.

Under your standards /lit was never born because that's the way it's always been. Most people fear introspection and self-analysis. Most people never strive to be much more than the average person. To them, it's either frightening, tedious, or both.

Intellectuals don't see either of these things as frightening or tedious. They see it as thrilling. It's what we live for. It's why we do psychedelics, lock ourselves in rooms and try to come up with theories and ideas that the billions who came before us may have overlooked.

Part of being an "intellectual" is acknowledging and understanding this and not trying to shove your gifted mindset down others throats. Lead them like a flock of sheep. The ones with the potential to be like you will naturally seek the same mindthrills you once sought. That's why smart people are here. To lead most and influence some.

But god damn it don't try so hard! It'll be in vain!

And if you're 'good,' you'll lead them somewhere nice rather than off the edge of some cliff.

No I don't "think I'm cool."

Stop trying to dismiss me because of how you feel I think or what you feel I read.

You're creating an opponent who doesn't even exist.

I don't "think I'm cool." I'm not "white knighting" for anyone. Those are hollow-ass dysphemisms that dickheads without a real argument driven by thoughts and perceptions use when they need to make something or someone look bad.

I think most people are "stupid" (actually, average) for genetic reasons. I think people who are "smart" shouldn't try to force people who are "stupid" to have the same natural fascination with introspection, self-analysis and philosophy that they have.

It's why the education system fails. If the person isn't genuinely interested in what you're talking about, it becomes a bunch of mindless fucking memorization.

OP doesn't give a shit what you think is intellectual or worthwhile. He wants some god damn cyberpunk and steampunk. He digs the aesthetics of it.

Again.

Stop trying to act like you're objectively better when it comes to something that thrives on subjectivity.

All those pictures say to me is "I'm an immature person who doesn't have an argument. I'm also a bad person because I thrive on creating negative emotions in other people. This guy typed a really long post, so he must be mad. Therefore I win."

But guess what, "I ain't even mad."

Mildly frustrated with the lack of a good argument. But that's it. I like having my thoughts challenged. Not dismissed with overused memepictures.

I know, I know, "go somewhere else then. 4chan is retarded".

I would, but the rest of the internet is retarded too, and 4chan is actually one of the smarter places. I just have to run into a smart person. Sometimes that takes a while.
