This is, of course, a valid opinion, but the film's title should always be rendered correctly as "Mad Max 2".

Protip: Edits meant that it was made less clear that Lord Humungus is actually the now-psychotic Goose from "Mad Max" and that the freaks in police uniforms and cop cars are actually the remnants of the authorities ... now in league with the punks!

John Carpenter's: The Thing.

It's a brilliant study of minimalistic character design and paranoia in closed social dynamics. Despite not spending any time on their past lives, we get a complete picture of each character and all of them feel unique based on how they react to the situation. On top of that the supernatural element is not the focus of the film, but rather a tool to explore the weaknesses of human distrust. The movie doesn't stoop to the level of cheap monster movie thrills, which horror films all too often succumb to, and chooses instead uses the Thing to examine humanity at the fringes of survival. It boils down to an us versus them chess match in which each species struggles to overcome the other.

On top of all of that, the cinematography is brilliant, it avoids cliches, and is genuinely terrifying on the first viewing. In my mind, it's damn close to being a perfect movie based on what its intentions and execution.

MASH, Nashville, and Three Women, the latter of which I don't particulary care for, play with sound in such amazing ways. The bullhorn device in MASH and its equivalent, the campaign automobile, in Nashville add so much- a spectre more than an additional character...
