Dude, no one knew what cybernetics and cognitive science were back then. All founders of a field are autodidacts of that field. An envious position really, writing your own ticket while all other Johnnies after pore after your work, careers taking cues from you.

Actually been doing something like that for the past half year, stopped taking classes and currently spend a few hours a day just reading non-fiction. Learning has become a lot more valuable now that it's self-motivated, as opposed to reading with the intent to get a letter grade.

I'll probably go back to school sometime for that dumb piece of paper, but right now, I feel very self-motivated and content with just learning.

the best way to learn shit is a combination of being taught something and learning it yourself. you can find out shit from a teacher that would have taken you many times as long to figure out or understand yourself.

i think you just have a problem with doing what other people tell you to do. get all pissed because you have to write papers or pass exams to get a degree to show people you know things, as if there's a better way.
