I just bought A Scanner Darkly, The Man in the High castle, and The Penultimate Truth.

In other words Philip K. Dick thread. What a cool dude! :D

cool. what stuff of his have you already read?

>> No.1359594

I've only read The Man in the High Castle but I liked it quite a bit. I'll read more of his work one of these days...

Only "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep"

I also picked up "Flow My tears" which is apparently better than "DADOES"

The books are good, the only complaint I have is with the american cover art. What the heck is this, it looks like someone made in in MS paint!

LOOK AT IT

Yeah it's a pretty stupid cover. I'm pretty sure this has come up here before.

>> No.1359643

i read flow my tears and it was so shit. the man's prose reads like an 8 year old's. the whole alternate realities trippin' off drugs thing was totally cliche nonsense. the way "hank" or "herb" or whatever his name was explained it all at the end like he was omniscient or something was totally lame. also, hugging black men. big fucking deal.

>> No.1359653

I've read:

a scanner darkly
ubik
the man in the high castle
flow my tears, the policeman said
the three stigmata of palmer eldritch
do androids dream of electric sheep?

a scanner darkly was by far my favorite, still remains one of my favorite novels of all time. the others range in quality, the best probably being three stigmata. i liked the weird twilight zone kinda trippin ballz style. good story, too.

oh yeah, and VALIS. i always forget that i read that book because i still have no fucking idea what it was about.

should i read the divine invasion? i've heard it's better. was VALIS just toodeepforme?

I'd say VALIS mindfucks everyone.

>> No.1361952

Divine Invasion is pretty average, i'd skip over it...the third novel in the "trilogy" is amazing though.

I've read about 20 novels of his over the years, plus some short story collections. Palmer Eldritch, Valis, and Ubik are my top three. Every PKD has differing opinions on this though. For instance Flow my tears left me pretty cold, but a lot of fans absolutely swear by it.
