>The hardest thing in life is giving up comfort.
This is true. It's why people don't leave bad relationships when everyone around them see it clearly. Why people don't leave soul-crushing jobs, despite complaining all the time about them. Why they KNOW the patterns they keep repeating but will not break them.

You're like me, with my peer group from highschool. For so long, I've wanted to "change" for the sake of them seeing the new me as "cool". What an absolute waste it has been, as I recognize now. The only thing I needed to "change" was the feeling of needing to change at all - least of all for their sake. You're still attached to your girlfriend, mentally, hence why she has control over your behaviors. You have let go of that attachment, and after doing so, ask yourself what you personally want for yourself. Then, you'll be on a true path of growth, which doesn't relate to your insecurity regarding your ex's perceptions of you. And you'll ironically likely reach a state after some time where if she did see you, she'd be impressed by the change observed of you.

It takes time, but we'll get there friend.

What kinda self-improvement we talking about here? The kinda that elivates one soul or the one that happens to make other people more money?

Because learning new skills for muh masta isn't self-improvement, it's upgrading biomachinery.

Nothing wrong with this quote. Fight Club was great and is only hated because of its popularity. People can't stand it when things turn popular here especially when anons didn't like it that much.

Is an Authenticity Paradox. If something is considered true, it's authentic. If something is considered popular, it's inauthentic. So as more people latch onto its authenticity and make it popular, it inevitability because inauthentic; despite still being true.

Unfortunately a vast majority of people don't have that "awakening" my roommate for example bought $1000 worth of wine yesterday (5 bottles in total) when I asked him why, he said "for when we have really special guests over" we've never had guests over, and spends most of his days of netflix.

The soul-elivating kind. I’ve expanded my mind beyond anything I thought capable even a year ago, and I’m still growing. I’ve even written half a novel just to spite this woman who likely doesn’t and will never care.

That’s pretty true. I actually am doing a job I really like for the first time in my life, but it took me 2 years to save up enough money to go home to see my family.

You can either like your job, or make lots of money.

I think I’m in a better position now. Liking what you do everyday is better than hating what you spend most of your time doing so you can have more money to, in theory, be happier than if you didn’t have a lot of money in it the small gaps of time you aren’t at work.
