If you damage part of a radio, you will no longer be able to access certain stations; but the signals still exist outside of the radio. So it's not fair to say there is nothing outside of the brain if brain damage is your only evidence. For all we know, the brain acts in a similar fashion to a radio, with consciousness being projected from elsewhere.
