Thoughts on the Dune series? I thought the first one was amazing and I'd recommend it to any sci-fi fan, but they seemed to decline in quality with each subsequent book. Almost all build-up, very little to no payoff. Finished God-Emperor recently and I don't feel particularly compelled to read on.

Yeah, it was really more my curiosity about the world that kept me reading rather than "the plot". Of course that was when I was a teenager.
