A rifle is not going to do it. You need a semi auto at least if you want 10+ kill count.

Depends on your definition of 'use'. Perhaps the story is set in Switzerland and there's a 19th century Schmidt-Reuben, a K11, a K31, and a Sig 510. The service rifle of the protagonist's father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great great grandfather. The use of their presence is to portray a respect for the past, a sense of nationalism, a sense of familial continuation and unity, as well as a respect for both the freedom to own firearms as well as the need to preserve one's own nation. They don't have to be handled, let alone fired. Perhaps talk about it; the protagonist ends up with a new partner and she's appalled that she would have 'guns' on the wall and demands he sell them, to do away with the family heritage, the sense of self-preservation, national preservation, freedom, etc.

The logical next step is to dispose of this toxic antagonist.
