Confessions is a great book

I love how brainlets interpret this as an endorsement of the prayer rather than a retrospective musing of his then insincerity. There was this faggot on YouTube, very pale and sickly looking, weak voice, "well guys I guess what he is saying is it doesn't matter and just take it easy". The quote is profound if you're intelligent like the posts so far, but it's meaning is absolutely lost to the brainlet and is taken as even some sort of inducement to follow in this error and other errors. This is doubly contradicted not just by him explicitly expressing that he was in error and preference to have been cured far earlier, but by the very title of the book.

I never knew that bible versicles could be so full until i read his dissertation on Genesis 1:1-2. Now imagine his commentaries on the psalms.

What's awesome is that if you read the rest of Augustine's corpus, it's pretty heady stuff. He's totally capable of writing really dense, intense theology and philosophy; you see this in the City of God and also in his dialogues. He's a brilliant philosopher and a master rhetorician.

And yet, even as he can write all that, he can write the Confessions, which is such a personal, intimate work. The mark of a great genius is that he can make large matters seem small and make small matters seem large.
