Can all christians on this board start including a tag "christian" in their name? That way I could know who you are and filter all of your posts so that the quality of this board would increase 10x for me and most other actually thoughtful members of this board.

I'm making a jest, but OP might actually be a genius here - perhaps the best way forward for this board is for every poster belonging to a specific belief-background should use a corresponding nametag such that every group can simply converse amongst each other. Catholics with Catholics, Protestants to themselves, Hindus with Hindus, Buddhists with Buddhistbros, and so on. Might be the best policy from here on.

atheists aren't doing the equivalent of going into rec threads posting "The Bible" as the first post, going on and on about how the bible is the highest literature (makes you wonder if they've read anything else), being obnoxious puritans who throw "cumbrain" towards anyone who admits to being remotely sexual, giving people useless advice like to embrace jesus. seriously, christians contribute nothing to this board, they just do the same tired algorithmic shit over and over. if they were all permabanned this place would become tolerable. it's not like you guys are even the good agape-driven christians trying to improve others (when you pretend like you are it's only to be condescending and holier-than-thou), 90% of what you do is try to annoy atheists

Oh well, at least there would be more discussion of literature. Half of /lit/ users don’t care about reading, but the ideas in certain non-fiction books. And you don’t have to read books to discuss these ideas. Take away the philosophy and theology, and most people will stop coming to /lit/. And that’s a good thing

I never said we can't discuss sacred texts, only that religious flame wars are almost always not about said texts, nor any philosophical works about those texts, usually breaking down into mudslinging and tribalism. if you think arguments about non-literary subjects are relevant since those non-literary subjects have literature despite the fact those arguments tend to ignore the literature, you're beyond hope

No one is challenging anything.
The athiests are just acting autistic.
The Christians simply yell that everyone else will suffer horribly for thinking differently than them.
The Hindus just smugly sit in a corner doing nothing.
The Buddhists don’t understand their own religion so they argue over which misinterpretation of their doctrine is the best one to throw at Christians.
Reddit was right on how to do discussion btw

Well I really don't like athiests out of the arrogance of it so I never really mind the Christians spatting at them. The issue with Christianity is that any of their arguements about why there is a God don't explain how their Abrahamic God is this God nor do they address the mythology itselfs having flagrant contradictions. However, prayer is meditation and is good for you. And I like their sense of community and charity. Their lack of critical thought regarding their mythology is very strange to me though. But I do think that the structure a mythology provides for a child is deeply good for their upbringing, especially a community one in which they know their place within it and their purpose.

Let's face it, the real reason athiests hate Christians is that they got angsty in their teen years and wanted something to rebel against and didn't see the utility of the structure provided. Then they go no further into thought regarding God or metaphysics and become souless empiricists.

I don't yell that people will suffer horribly for thinking differently, but then I also don't get into shouting matches on the internet in general unless they're about really stupid things like hendricks vs daddario (daddario wins btw because she's more snuggleable)
reddit was absolutely wrong, better to have a constant shitstorm than to never be challenged or meet anyone different than you, I get most of my book recs and lots of new ideas from /lit/ and if there wasn't a constant clash of ideas pruning the weak the board would stagnate and that wouldn't happen

Sadly you’re not the majority of Christians on 4chan, some simply are the most horrible people.
Also sure that’s great for what this board is meant for, opinions on media, but when it comes to ideas people are so set in stone about like religion it’s the worst format for discussing them

>Let's face it, the real reason athiests hate Christians is that they got angsty in their teen years and wanted something to rebel against and didn't see the utility of the structure provided.
I mean, radical anti-theists aren't fully without argument. and besides that, reducing atheism to teen angst isn't a very productive criticism of their ideology when recent atheist development has seemed to tend away from anti-theism

I'm sorry you've become so jaded, and of course I'm disappointed that my brothers and sisters (lmao) in Christ are low quality flamebaiters sometimes, but I think there are still some worthwhile discussions even around religion happening inbetween the shitposts, and if you develop a discerning eye you can pick out diamonds in the rough, so to speak. I've learned many new things about other people's beliefs, changed a few of my own and seen other people let go of their old ideas in favor of something new that they never would have discovered without /lit/.
4chan always requires a thick skin and the ability to wade through an ocean of piss, but it also has something that reddit et al doesn't and I think the two extremes are actually linked to each other. The same lack of social norms that lets people post dumb soijack edits all day also lets people share thoughts and experiences you won't hear anywhere else.
