Whenever I'm in the bookstore I make sure to keep an eye out for cute girls so I can "arrange" for us to have interactions. For example recently I noticed a girl was in the literature section looking at the Don Quixote editions and I made sure to recommend her the right one. She said thanks and was slightly impressed, but the trick (and this is where most guys fail) is to RESIST trying to advance the conversation or ask her out at this point. She will go from somewhat liking you to rolling her eyes internally in a split second because she gets that routine a dozen times a day.

The trick is to use serendipity, as women are very vulnerable to it. A woman will go where her serendipity index tells her to. To get the serendipity index high you have to make it so that your encounters seem unforced and unintentional. So, first run into her in the literature section, but then carefully observe where she is going after that. If you know the routes of the store, you can tell just by the fact that she's going to Section A that she has no choice but to emerge in Section B, and Section B has English poetry so she will almost certainly stop there. So you can casually, but quickly, make your way over there, and when you see her, you should already be reading something conspicuously that will catch her eye (it's good have go-to books in each section, with appropriately stark covers). Again, don't overdo it. When you see her again, make eye contact and smile a bit sheepishly like "haha, we have to stop running into each other like this!" But don't pursue just yet.

The trick is to get her a third time. You will have to figure out the dynamics of your own bookstore, but after girls go to English poetry, they have to exit by the recent acquisitions table, which is by the checkout counter. I make sure to go to the counter and buy something just as she's looking at the books, and ideally ask the desk clerk a thoughtful question, like where their Latin poetry section is. After I finish paying, I act like the recent acquisitions table only just caught my interest, and I go over to it. Now the encounter can be organic so I start conversation as soon as I detect we're interested in the same book (sometimes you will have to force this and just pretend you are interested). And now that she's seen me multiple times, I am high on her serendipity index.

If it doesn't work, don't worry. There's always another girl lol. Occasionally if I really like the girl and I'm disappointed that she left, I'll try for a last ditch effort and go to the Starbucks across the street, hoping she'll show up there after going to the bookstore, but that's rare. Usually they get their coffee before coming to the store.
