The Judge is the nemesis of The Man With No Name.

The Judge is basically the secret engine behind the foundation of civilizations, where The Man With No Name is a mongrel who lives in communion with the natural world and society, the Judge is albino (a magical realistic symbol for a moral compass that allows nothing but his own definition of desire), educated and refined to become "the best version of himself". This, of course, from his own (absolute) point of view.

The judge nests in the hinges of the system to which he belongs when he permeates virgin land, a symbiosis is generated. On the one hand, his system is implemented through him (War Crimes) and he plays his favorite game (War) and entertains himself as the child he is.

The only one who can stop The Judge is The Man With No Name.

The Judge was basically a wholly aspiritual, material world Mephistopheles. Mephistopheles was a representative of the individual Man's spiritual fork (temptation towards personal Evil/Damnation away from personal Goodness/Salvation). The Judge, on the other hand, is wholly an amoral force, a manifestation of Man's bedrock animal brutality and the regression towards it in conflict when one abandons the patina of civility and reason maintained by individually subscribed to codes of conduct or moral. Why ideological? Is it because the character of The Judge is supposed to carry a message? The point is that he doesn't have a message. There is no lesson in Blood Meridian. It's a walk through the reality of human violence where there are predators and prey.

It is not gratuitous that at the beginning of the book The Kid has ended up in the middle of a battle between Indians and Union soldiers. A massacre occurs but it is not because Native Americans have "the Gods on their side" in the same way that American soldiers lose because "God has abandoned them". In this sense, The Judge is proof of that when one of the members of the gang relates how he saved them by creating gunpowder at the top of the crater using urine.

Intelligence, brutality, strategic thinking. Divinity, good and evil do not play a role in the human development of war and peace as far as human will allows it. But it is the human being who has the last word in reality. It is for this reason that The Judge seems post human in the strictest sense of the word.

He wins battles and devours children because he executes only his will, which is shielded by his encyclopedic knowledge and powerful analytical skills. It does not work because it is "evil because evil" but because it knows how to execute each process in developing the satisfaction of his appetites.

He is a semi god between men during a time and a geopolitical context where even the members of a highly industrialized sedentary civilization are similar to feral animals reacting to stimuli. The human being is alone in darkness and makes his way by burning plains and opening skulls.
