Hello /lit/

Please recommend me some good novels with elves in it. They should ideally be Tolkienesque, or the Norse-type. ANything a slong as they're not pixies/sprites, but tall, human-like beings with lop ears.

Poul Anderson's The Broken Sword. The elves are based on the Elves of Norse and Celtic Mythology, they are brilliant, beautiful, ambiguous and inhuman in their motivations and mentality, and a bit Dark, just like in the legends. Fucking awesome book as well, better than Tolkien IMO.

James Barclay has written a book recently specifically about Elves. Bit of a revisionist take on the mythos but by all accounts very good.

Well:

The Illiad and Beowulf were both epics of old. Yes, they were not exactly very well-written, but their palce as mythology is important, considering that they were an early example of the use of epic as a way of finding and covneying meaning.

Tolkien attempted the same thing in LotR, which makes the story not very friendly with literature, but more at home with the philology that Tolkien himself was an expert on.

H.P. Lovecraft is similar, though his use of the epic/mythopoesis was a means of subverting it. Loveraftw a sperfectly fine with other writers expanding on his mythos, as he intended his portrayal of Cthulhu and the other elder gods as being simialr tot he evolving nature of other mythologies.

In truth, I guess I singled out Twilight because of an internal bias as wella s the stigma associated with the series. But I'm sure that a good justification can be argued for,

Oh, and I ahve read a Song of Ice and Fire yet. I know, I'm behind

i thought it was enriching in a way that you try to understand why this is a fantasy for teen girls & become even more puzzled after finishing reading it. its worth reading.

i give it 2/5 stars, & i give Dorian Gray 3/5 stars. it wasnt terrible. pretty easy to whizz through since its so low-level.

idk its culturally relevant so worth having read.

that's given me the idea to maybe read one of /lit/'s popular 'low-brow' books & compare the quality.

i dont know what book would be ideal for this though & ideally would not want to read a series or multi-volume book.

There are only five names you need to know in the fantasy genre.
Geroge R. R. Martin, Robin Hobb, Stephen Erikson, Terry Pratchet, and Glen Cook.
Read their books first, then you can move on to other decent authors.
Patrick Rothfuss, Trudi Canavan, Raymond E. Feist, Nick Perumov, etc.

Before some asspie starts flaming me for not making it clear, I'll just throw this out there; IMO
