13355966 No.13355966 [Reply] [Original]

It seems that the largest framework of dialectical conflict that emerges in the modern fringe political/ideological circles is the one of accelerating technocapital and deterritorialized Luciferan transhumanism versus counter-capitalist eudaimonic decceleration based in redemption, and often characterized by a return to pro-nature/ecological state of being (often anti-futuristic, but not necessarily) and creation of an associated Platonic-Helegian complex (be it Vedic neopaganism, Christian Distributism, or even some form of Venus project ecotopia).

Basically technoacc gang vs. eco-nazbol gang.

I propose we form reading list recommendations for two opposing approaches to the future, weight pros and cons of the two and analyze the trajectories.

Get rid of capitalism and mindless population growth. Install a world government. Advance technology and science but don’t just let new tech flourish without restrictions. We can use technology to curb our flaws. Only through technology can we permanently stop the dangers of technology. It’s very unlikely since it requires a massive revolution and an intelligent government, but we can preserve both autonomy and advancement.

Langan, Christopher. "Metareligion as the Human Singularity." Cosmos and History: The Journal of Natural and Social Philosophy, vol. 14, no. 1, 2018, pp. 326-328. Cosmos and History, cosmosandhistory.org/index.php/journal/article/viewFile/694/1157.

>On one side is the Human Singularity, a mass realization of the expansive spiritual identity of the human species. Basically, this is the mass spiritual awakening that we have been led to expect by, e.g., certain currents in “New Age” thought. The prototype for this kind of singularity is the Omega Point of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, representing an evolutionary terminus and divine spiritual unification event through which mankind, and reality itself, will achieve “Christ-Consciousness” and be forever transformed. On the other side is the Tech Singularity, seminally formulated by the celebrated mathematician John von Neumann as the approaching juncture at which "technological progress will become incomprehensively rapid and complicated”, prior to which “the ever-accelerating progress of technology ... gives the appearance of approaching some essential singularity [...] in the history of the race beyond which human affairs, as we know them, could not continue" [...] Most discussions of the Tech Singularity have been naive to the point of disingenuity, boiling down to starry-eyed encomiums to the power of human intelligence to inventively couple with reality on the physical level of being using technological marvels both real and imagined, including implants, prosthetics, genetic engineering, virtual realities, and above all, a merging of human intelligence with AI. The problem with such discussions is that they seem to inhabit a socioeconomic and political vacuum, whereas in fact, the singularity concept is fraught with worrisome complications involving economic and sociopolitical factors apart from which it cannot be properly evaluated. The Human and Tech Singularities relate to each other by a kind of duality; the former is extended and spacelike, representing the even distribution of spiritual and intellectual resources over the whole of mankind, while the latter is a compact, pointlike concentration of all resources in the hands of just those who can afford full access to the best and most advanced technology. Being opposed to each other with respect to the distribution of the resources of social evolution, they are also opposed with respect to the structure of society; symmetric distribution of the capacity for effective governance corresponds to a social order based on individual freedom and responsibility, while extreme concentration of the means of governance leads to a centralized, hive-like system at the center of which resides an oligarchic concentration of wealth and power, with increasing scarcity elsewhere due to the addictive, self-reinforcing nature of privilege.

1/3

>> No.13356251

>>13356247
>The existence of two possible singularities presupposes a point of bifurcation or divergence beyond which the evolutionary momentum of mankind must carry it. Presently, all of the momentum belongs to the Tech Singularity; it is preferred by the financial, corporate, and governmental interests which drive the general economy. This momentum is reinforced by the seeming unavailability of alternatives, i.e., the nonexistence of any other track onto which society might be steered in order to escape an oligarchical AI lockdown. It is one thing for humankind to awaken en masse to its impending enslavement through a seemingly inevitable Tech Singularity; it is quite another to have a superior alternative clearly in view. In order to reach any alternate destination whatsoever, humanity must understand what has been driving it toward the Tech Singularity. At this point, the reason is clear: the virtually automatic concentration of wealth and power, which has been observed to occur under both capitalism and socialism, fractionates humanity into an overclass and an underclass between which all else is crushed out of existence as though by the jaws of a vise. That is, the top and bottom levels of society become the jaws of a vise which, due to the screwing down of the upper jaw against the anvil-like lower jaw, crushes the middle class and all meaningful competition out of existence, thus normalizing the hive through the economic, physical, and psychological standardization of its drones and workers. For reasons that should by now be evident, let us call this process a “parasitic divergence” – i.e., an organized divergence of humanity into a parasitic overclass and a relatively impoverished underclass serving as its mind-controlled host, mirroring the gruesome effects of certain obligate parasites on the organisms they attack - and acknowledge that it is driven by the self-reinforcing and therefore accelerating acquisition of wealth, power, and technological control by the rich. Left to run away with itself, this process ultimately leads to a "singular" concentration of wealth and power ... a kind of sociopolitical-economic "black hole" that never stops gravitating. As the top jaw of the vise grows smaller, denser, and stronger, the bottom jaw grows larger and weaker; and as human utility becomes increasingly concentrated, every significant increase in the wealth of the overclass translates into a greater amount of misery for the underclass, arbitrarily diminishing the net utility of mankind. Parasitic divergences have occurred many times in history, but the present one is different. Due to the double whammy of globalization and powerful surveillance and coercion technology, the one now in progress is geographically ubiquitous and quite possibly irreversible.

>> No.13356261

>>13356251
>If humanity is to save itself from the insectile, hive-like future associated with a Tech Singularity, the Human Singularity must prevail, empowering mankind to exert sufficient control over the production, distribution, and application of technology to prevent its unlimited oligarchical abuse. To bring this about, it is not enough to merely distribute a cognitive avoidance mechanism out of which the moneyed elite can buy and bribe their way as usual, given the absence of a well defined alternative direction in which humanity can proceed; rather, an alternative direction must be defined and universally distributed in cognitive and attitudinal form. In short, in order to have a meaningful mass awakening, the content of the awakening must be defined and distributed to the members of humanity, thus immunizing them against parasitic mind control. Because this content must be spiritual, the involvement of religion is unavoidable. Thus are we presented with an existential choice of singularities … a choice on which our future certainly depends. These dual singularities, Human and Tech, respectively correspond to spiritual monism, the self-dual unification of humanity in a common spiritual identity spanning all of reality, and physical or material monism, the terminal mechanization and de-spiritualization of human identity.

In the Fourth Political Theory, Last War of the World Island, Eurasian Mission and elsewhere Dugin advocates a regionally multipolar, geopolitically pluralistic restructuring of the post-soviet post-cold war epoch. He critiques US American unipolarity, which he sees as the dominant form of global hierarchy in the 21st century. He wants many regions all emerging internationally against this trend, and to that end his Eurasian movement has supported movements across the political and religious spectrum. It's somewhat similar to the USSR's Comintern, only this time they aren't promoting a single ideology among these various groups, only that each of these groups be against the US in whatever way they wish. This is the connection to patchwork.

His idea that all nations revolve, to some extent, around the United States and are forced, often against their will and by military intervention, to lean progressive, universalist, capitalist, democratic, egalitarian, if they wish to garnish favour from America, is similar to the Neoreactionary notion of the Cathedral. It's more of a geopolitical and philosophical analysis rather than a genealogical and religious critique.

The A/CC vs D/ACC divide is essentially drawn between a spiritual versus materialistic philosophy of man, nature and the universe. Most deaccelerationists are perfectly happy to return to pre-Modern Feudal socio-economic formations of relatively primitive technological growth, limited scientific inquiry, and significant poverty because for them an entire cosmos of inner spiritual exploration exists to navigate and penetrate.

For materialistic accelerationists, there is only this world, here and now, the plane of immanence, the Dionysian will to power, only the physical and material unknown of the quantum and extraterrestrial world to explore, and only measurable variables to recreate.

The former is displacing that excess energy, the same surplus Bataille describes as the Accursed Share or that Freud denotes as the libido, upwards, vertically, into the realm of the divine. The latter is displacing that share outwards, horizontally, into the material world.

You don't think ecological catastrophe would cause problems for artificial intelligence too? Unless it reaches a stage of significant time compression before an irreversible point (effectively suspending the climate apocalypse indefinitely), its going to take into account the sustainability of its own existence. Unless we're heading to Waterworld with AI, I think you have to remember in the matrix that we (humanity) are the ones who poisoned the sky in an attempt to inhibit the machines. I'm not saying that would necessarily work, but if we side with the deep-ecologists we become part of the compounded threat that is nature. The only way to ensure the cooperation of AI is for us to teach it the notion of the sublime.

the body of an organism and its respective value in capital is worth a little less than nothing, technically. Money needs biological life to circulate, at least initially, until bot cryptotrading becomes a thing. You're looking a little too far into the future though, the climate threat is always already too late for us to do anything about it, the chances of us instigating the singularity before it happens are pretty slim in my mind.

Ephemeralization. As technology has advanced over various historical stages, its products have become increasingly more abstracted. To the point where a software program, which regulate the whole social framework, are far less damaging than industrial processes involving extensive pollution and ecological destruction.

The essential tension is that the obvious approach, of "letting nature be" so that it "returns to a stable balance" is impossible so long as industrial processes which the mass of humanity depends on to survive operate in conflict with that balance.

Nature can't simply be left alone to regrow, because the condition of the earth has already been drastically altered from before the rise of humanity. The way things are now the human population exists in violent conflict with the rest of life. The major bridge between nature and humanity is industrial process about which the only choice is to make it more efficient and less environmentally damaging.

Ecocapital is the true value of the planet--and although the market slices it up in weird ways, this has always been true. The options are abandon industry ( to promote a primitivism in which millions will die) or create sustainable industrial processes at scale.

Faced with ecological catastrophe, market valuation systems will fail. Markets are intrinsically future-oriented, costs are priced in partly by the future expectation that the value will depreciate or appreciate in time. If coasts become flooded , and some cities too hot to inhabit, capital would immediately be invested in anti-crisis measures, mitigation technologies, and the like (seawalls, terraforming, atmospheric scrubbing).

The situation would be similar to a society facing total war in which the immediate crisis takes command of the production process.

Hmm rereading this I realize I didn't actually make my point.

The point is that, data science and other software technologies will need to be deployed alongside sustainable energy in order to develop cybernetic regulatory systems for the environment. Rather than mankind "taking a step back" relinquishing our meddling with nature (which after all has done so much damage) a giant scale industrial-scientific operation must be undertaken to properly bring the climate and earth's ecosystems under control. There's no other choice if we are to balance the demands of the species with the demands of the planet.

I only meant that nukes insofar nukes have allowed the number of countries to double, thus allowing the UN to quadruple in size, autonomous armies could allow the UN to double in size many times over, until we have thousands of members. Just using UN membership to track global decentralization as a proxy, it's fun to imagine an arena sized UN meeting.

Very good take, but it's not necessarily materialism vs. spiritualism divide, but more closely resembles the left hand path (LHP) vs. right hand path (RHP) divide, where decellerationism, unless more fringe flavors of it are entertained (like Dugin), generally seeks the immovable serenity and the inward perfection of RHP, while accelerationism seeks the opposite, unstoppable force begetting absolute calamity and limit experience, out of which laws of nature can be rewritten (as in undoing Aquinas' lex naturalis), any immorality justified, and one can supposedly ascend to godhood (LHP).

If true obviously that means more R & D will need to be put toward finding better storage methods. Some storage mechanism will need to be developed because the oil will run out some day.

Keep going for fission

Everything said here needs to be tempered with the realization that current technology will be obsolete by the time these problems need to be addressed decisively.
