the major religion is usually the "default" and most people "follow" it a bit mindlessly, while the church tries to get into govt (here at least, and very agressively), followers of minority branches seem more aware and voluntary if it's the right term.

Agree. I think it's prioritization is mostly prescriptive counsel to avoid falling into sin in the first place. Augustine mentions something to this effect in Book 2 of his Confessions.

Clerical celibacy only became strictly mandatory in Canon Law after the mass protests around 1000 AD. Before that it was seen as an optional bonus, even if marriage was frowned upon.

Been feeling very convicted lately, like I'm finally realizing the gravity of my past and present trespasses. I've tried to live a righteous life but I've failed frequently and tremendously. I've been in a spiritual wilderness for years and have often felt abandoned by God, even though I know any distance between us is my fault. The only thing I can think of is to be confirmed Orthodox. I really want to take part in Confession and Communion, as I presently lack both accountability and fellowship. Pray for me bros.
