Why does Russia have the most depressing catalog of books on the planet? They just have vast amounts of literature that are about dystopias and the "superfluos man". was it communism?

Also, the biggest video games in Russia are about postapocalyptic wastelands, Metro 2033, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., and although not Russian I heard the Fallout games were very popular there.
