Imaging believing, even in the 1800s, that people will voluntarily act against morality and society at large for the sake of their own hedonistic ego, when the social hierarchy has built ego as an extension onto itself.

This is what continentalism does to you

nah i think egoism is by definition hedonistic, isn't it?

Get the fuck outta this thread if you haven't actually read Stirner.

Not necessarily. Sensual gratification is not as important to an egoist as fulfilling a sense of self, which can be achieved via methods that don't involve the body or bodily pleasure at all

>> No.13231108

Right, which is completely compatible with hedonism. See Epicurus' and Mill's arguments fir the "higher pleasures".

that egoism and hedonism are 'compatible' does not mean that egoism is "by definition" hedonistic. Stop moving the goalposts from your original claim

Pleasure seekers are by stirner words "self-sacrificing" and its very obvious how they sacrifice other things for this one cause not necessarily making them Egoistic because they care for a cause that they sacrifice others for and this cause doesn't really help the self it actually if anything it blinds you and tunnel visions you, the unique, read Heraclitus and Platos Dialogues to see what I mean. Also Stirner pretty much agrees that an individual should practice or live by all means of self-control and mindlessly seeking pleasure is not by any definition self-control.

Check out "The Hierarchy" chapter in The Unique and its Property(the Landstreicher translation) for more
