Epictetus - born as a slave and ended up as the most important stoics and teachers of the Ancients. Really, the only non-bullshit self-help book there is.

Also, reading religious texts and not using gamer language actually helps.

Good luck.

Meditations - Marcus Aurelius

>> No.13226655

No self-help book is worth reading. You are the only person who knows the exact circumstances of your life. You know what you want and what you need to do to achieve those things. What you're doing now is procrastinating, you're hoping that a self-help book can "inspire" you or open your eyes towards an easier path.

Just fucking start doing what you already know you should do and don't read self-help books. Self-help authors are no different than astrologers. They give generic advice that can be applied to every situation while taking gullible peoples money.

Fag.

Self-Help can never come from religious texts. Should an external source be your "raison d'etre", it no longer is "Self"-help.

Furthermore, if an individual is in search of self-help, it is an unequivocous sign of a lack of external motivation, higher end, supreme idea, whatever you call it, which by itself means the individual himself must become his own motivation (or arise from within his inner self) because we are currently living in the era of information and he has already been exposed to millenia of "reasons to live" yet none have fazed him.

With all due respect for Kierkegaard, the only plausible leap of faith to overcome nihilism and existencial angst during the XXI century is towards the individual.

Self reflection. Any book will help you get an idea. The Idea itself, which belongs to you, is yours to develop and actualize. And it’s beyond words, so keeping a journal may help but it’s not exactly the same. You need to make contact with EVERYTHING, and what’s more you can only do it yourself. What’s awaits is something unique and no one else can give you.

As far as self help books go, Napoleon Hill is great. Plato, honestly. Stirner is awesome but you have to get rid of his opinions on all these other subjects. Everything outside of the beginning of Unique and it’s Property is just bashing. Same for Nietzsche. Transvaluation of All Values- Awesome! That’s really incredible and I believe everyone should start from scratch. But then he wants to fill you with his beta projections about Master morality and again, more bashing. Yes you need to transvaluate all values- yourself. Self-help
